As Samara has her allergy to milk/milk protein can anyone recommend a cereal that Samara can have that doesn't have any milk in it...and any other food as well would be great.

I bought her the Watties Baby Museli which she tried yesterday for the first time and absolutely loved but completley forgot to check the ingredients and it has skim milk in it and of-course she reacted - I felt so terrible.

With Maya we just stuck to Baby Rice right up until she was one and old enough to have adult cereal.

The Watties/Golden Circle jars are pretty well labelled dairy/egg/gluten etc. free but if you call their 0800 numbers they'll send you a list of which ones are allergy friendly.

Good luck!

Yeah we still use rice cereal and the other thing I started giving when he could handle lumps was porridge. Milk oaties are good (just make with water/breastmilk/specialist formula). They taste quite nice with just water and I add a cube or two of fruit puree to it.
You can also buy rice bread instead of normal bread (if you are avoiding soy as well).
Organic shops are good for milk free products, there is a make of rusk that organic shops normally stock which are free of all common allergens.
Rice crackers and rice cakes are awesome too, and we also found some animal crackers at the organic shop that are safe for him (and very yummy)
If you ask your plunket nurse they have a handout from watties with all the allergens listed for their baby foods.
That is all i can think of.

Ella (who is completely dairy-free) is 16 months and she still occasionally has some Farex (the ones for 4-month+, plain and pear & banana) mixed in with fruity goodness.  She has a weetbix for brekkie every morning with fruit puree and soy milk, and the cereal by Healtheries branded "Simple" (from their hippie range) is dairy-free.  Also - Cocoa Pops Cocoa Rocks are OK - not exactly a good brekkie, but a nice snack treat!

Thanks so much guys.

I bought today some Farex Plain and some Watties jars that are already made up with fruit and cereal that said they were milk free so fingers crossed these will be ok.

We have an appointment with Jan Sinclair at the end of April so I am going to carry on breastfeeding her until then and start reading all the ingredient labels from now on!

Tyde has had a dairy intolerance too, and was on Neocate from approx 3/4months. I would do a big mix of porridge (and when still small I would puree it after cooking it) he LOVED it and I just made it with water, not milk and I would freeze it also, then add pureed fruit etc to it when I needed it. He still loves porridge. (cheap too!)
Also i know it sounds weird, but brown rice. If you cook it and cook it till it's gooey, then put it in the blender, it's really nutritious and you can either add veg or fruits to it (I would do a pot of it and then freeze little amounts of this too).
Tyde is 1 and has just gone back onto dairy and has had very little reaction so it's great (for us!) our dietitan said he 'may' grow out of it at a year, and looks like he has!
all the best.
