Right, I have bitten the bullet and am starting a March Mummies thread.

I am still incredibly nervous that something wont happen and I am actually not pregnant, will feel more confidant when I get through today with no AF (my due date). Then I will think about adding a ticker and adding myself to the due date list.

I have a feeling I have already begun to get morning sickness. Felt awful this morning and just really felt like I was going to be sick, sort of car sick feeling. Has passed now thank goodness.

Hope some others join me soon

Right off to do another knickers check!

hehehe i forgot to ask about my levels...she told me everything was good and then told me the negatives....iron low, white cells low....so have to do another one in a month...Im thinking if levels not good she would have told me but prob should have asked...DOH!
I am tired at night but I have seen 5 am a lot lately! Still nauseaous - hubbys chilli at wendys last night did not help! could barely look at it. Not being sick really (yet?) but still swells.
I am totally bloated and had a few people ask if dates are right...im pretty sure they are due to charting and ovulating!
So how you guys doing? What are your symptoms...have either of you got the hiccups too? Thats my weird one!

between 4 and 5am is starting to become a familar time for me as well, I was wide awake this morning and kind of needed to go to the toilet but as it was cold I didn't want to get up, after half an hour of tossing and turing I did and what do you know, I fell asleep not long after.

I am having periods of feeling sick, but I am really tired, not sure if that is from a big week at work and a bad nights sleep on Wednesday night but I crashed last night, 8am in bed asleep and only just woke up (excluding my 5am toilet trip)

I am still paranoid that something will go wrong and it is a chemical pregnancy or blighted ovum, so looking forward to my first scan!

oh the paranoia...I have that too....and knowing so early doesnt really help with that does it....I mean there is a long way for us to go yet before we are "safe" so I worry constantly....I try not to tell Hubby as i think he is already worried enough for both of us, let alone adding my paranoia to it....
My craving today is chicken strips from KFC or Wendys...yep gonna have to have some real soon...but meanwhile off to get waxed so i look half decent...was meant to be a hair dye but then i got PREGNANT!!!! LOL

Just a tip for those wanting to indulge in the naughtiness of KFC etc...make sure it is really hot or even better take it home and microwave it to make sure it is really hot...that's what I do!

I just haven't mentioned my snack burger addiction to my doctor. I'm just aware that a big danger is food that has been sitting around but if it's piping hot then it's a lot safer... So I'm not so sure that she approves but she also knows that I've indulged in takeaways and the precautions I've taken in making sure that they are hot, hot, hot.

Question on the hot thing - I can heat the food until it's really hot but then it's too hot to eat so I need to wait for it to cool down. Is that how it works for everyone or do you actually eat it piping hot?

My EDD is 1 March so I will lurk in here a bit. Still really really happy for you Sarah

I have lots more saliva and feel sick all day. I have to remember to eat something every two hours to keep the nausea away but sometimes I forget.

I am super paranoid and haven't touched KFC or any chicken bought ready cooked - or anything ready cooked. It is getting really hard to find things to eat for lunch. I would normally have soup and toast but soup - ewwwwwww!! Actually by the time I have anything ready to eat, I don't want to eat it anymore!! I have a thing for sandwiches at the moment with lots of salad in them. Do you think a veggie Subway would be ok?

And what causes constipation? I haven't really changed my diet but I have noticed a definate change in my -ahem - "regularity" - sorry if TMI

I tended to always have problems in that area to a degree, but I think as I am taking elevit all the time now it hasn't helped due to the iron in it which can make you consitipated.

I tend to be going to bakers delight lately, however think I will start taking meals to microwave at work soon.

Constipation is caused by the hormones "relaxing" all your internal workings and slowing them down. I've found it has passed after the first few weeks.

yeah doctor also warned me to be aware of levels of iron in the tablets - cause altho my iron levels are real low the iron supplements can clog you up - catch 22 really! So he told me loads of red meat and veges...
Vege subway would be ideal....
Sarah -i have had some increase earlier but settled now. Had mega pains in tummy last night after a big meal (actually i pigged out on roast pork!!!)...had to lie on my side for quite a while to get it to subside.
Nausea only waved around 3pm again yest and not really bad....otherwise not feeling sick etc at all....please please please let this be my lot for 9 months!!! Have a g friend due in oct who hasnt had it either...and another who was sick entire 9 months due yest! And i still feel like I have five inside stretching me around big time...anyone else have a lot of that....???

mwhahahaha I have further satisfied my shopping addiction, maternity clothes have been purchased! Hubby is happy with the purchase as well, just jeans and a top and a shirt for work will be purchased tomorrow.

Also have just told Dad, I was meant to be going to Hawaii with him next Feb for my cousins wedding (he was paying for half!), so gave him a quick call to check if tickets were booked or purchased as there is no way I will be travelling in Feb next year. Luckily he is off to do it tomorrow, however he obviously wanted to know why I couldn't go anymore.

Leish....I was told no to vege subway because the food has been sitting around so even though it's salad it's still a listeria risk....boooooooooooooo

It can be really hard coming up with food ideas....I tend to really rely on frozen meals either store bought or made myself at home....

Hi guys, thought I had better make my presence known in here, as I am due march 3rd (been lurking in the febs for a while).
Its been an aweful weekend for me, my father in law passed away in the early hours of sunday morning after suffering from a fall on friday night, which lead to massive brain injuries, one that he would never have recovered from. It has been a major shock for my Dh, his family and myself as he was very healthy and strong and it came completly out of the blue. So lots of stress and not a lot of sleep, and a very emotional time.

I had my 1st appointment with my m.w this morning, was going to cancel but considering the stress thought it would be a good idea to talk to her, she was lovely and has booked me in for an early scan, to check all is ok and because there is twins in the family (dh is a twin too) so that is on the 26th.

Have been feeling very sick, especially over the weekend,
and have been having tummy pains, but finding ginger tea a good help for the nausea. And I understand everyones problems finding things to eat as couldn't eat anything really at the hospital cause its been sitting around all day.

The one thing that I am really happy about is that we told our parents, so he knew about bubs before he went, he also happened to tell almost the entire community, but thats ok (even though we wanted to keep it fairly quiet).
my best friend sent some words of wisdom that helped me heaps and I keep thinking about them when I get upset, she said " your baby is very special because its gets to meet its granddad before its even born" it makes me smile to think that.

I also wanted to say congrats to bombshell and Sarah on your news and welcome to the 'march club'. Talk soon Hayley

I am sorry to hear about your father in law. What a huge shock it must have been, but I am sure you were pleased he was told the news.

For me, I think my morning sickness really kicked in. I was at work and suddenly just became really really nasueas (sp) and didn't know if I should lie down, go home or throw up. Tried gingernuts and that didn't really work, went out and got some travel calm at lunch time and it worked a treat. Hope it doesn't continue like this though.

Also went to pumpkin patch and picked up the shirt I had on hold that will be good for work, but so work wouldn't see it I then had to throw the bag away and the stuff it inside so no one would know

Hailstones I am so sorry to hear that. My sympathies to you and your family. Please dont get too stressed and look after you and baby ok!
My grandma passed away last night (Sun) too. So I am completely with you in your mourning. It was a relief for us and hopefully for her too though. She was 94.
The weird thing is this - mum found out she was PG with me when her grandad passed on and she helped to dress his body. My gt grandma guessed from her vommitting everywhere (mums a nurse so usually good at that).
Then everyone told us my Gma held on for wedding and when she kept literally hanging on we wondered why and they all said she was waiting for a baby announcement. Well we told her we are pg on Sat afternoon and then mum showed her some baby singlets on Sunday we bought and told her we used her money for them so they were a gift from her to the baby.
Well she stopped drinking on saturday, and on sunday night when talking about baby names with DH in front of Gma - she gave us a few raised eyebrows at some...approval, then mum told her she would be babys guardian angel ....and then we left shortly thereafter...she passed on half an hour later. I am just sooo pleased she knew about the baby before she left.

Congrats to you March Mummies to be!!

I'm jsut butting in here really, but just wanted to offer some advise re iron tablets.  I have a really bad history of low iron, and it gets even wrose when I am pregnant.  My midwife from when I was pregnant with Bethany was trying to load me up on iron tablets, but the prescription ones were far to rough on me, and bound me up terribly.

If that happens to you, persevere with the iron pills(as they have a high amount of iron), and drink kiwicrush (from the freezer section) if you can.  Personally, I could not stomach it, and now over 2.5 yrs later the though makes me gag!  Another option, which works wonders for me, was to stop the prescription iron tablets, and start taking Thompsons Organic Iron tablets, most chemists stock them.  I took 2 of those a day, and they were brilliant!!  No constipation at all.  Another thing worth thinking aobut is Iron Melts.  they are good too.

Obviously the prescription pills have the highest iron amounts, but anything is better than nothing!!

Oh Hayley - so sorry to hear about your father in law. And Bombshell about your grandma. That is so lovely that you were able to tell her and have her a little involved before she passed away though.

I am disappointed about Subway. I can't stand the thought of microwave food I just want yummy fresh sandwiches with tonnes of veggies in them. Hmmmmm - such a dilemna.

I think I am ok on the iron front. I have been forcing down red meat like a good pregnant woman.

I htink I need some maternity clothes already. I put on my fav pair of jeans today and - well - they are a bit tighter than normal. Eeek.

My clothes started getting tight at that stage! My pants were undone a lot by about 9 weeks, was in Maternity clothes by 12 weeks!
In the bounty book it says for Week 27 - Around now you may need to move to maternity clothes. What a joke! I have nearly out grown one pair of mine!

Leish so long as our sandwiches are made at home you wil be fine to indulge as much as you like...it's only good sitting around that is bad.

The other option is find an excellent cafe who will make a sandwich fresh for you and glad wrap it.

Just on the Iron front, I have been given Iron and folic acid together and have been able to keep a little regular. My other concern is my plalets, they are almost at 100 and going down. My midwife has told me that next week if they aren't climbing i'll have to have a tranfusion to get them back up to normal and it'll mean a night in hospital as I don't take transfusions well. Just what I want in the first few weeks of this pregnancy. I spent my last 3 weeks in hospital with Andrew because of pre-ecampcia so this time my problems are at the begining of the pregnancy.

oh that doesnt sound good at all....any way you can avoid a night in hospital - what else can you do for palates?

Well we went and shopped today, mum is here for funeral so we made a day out together. Bought some baby stuff - all neutral. some good sales on...
But have to say being a size 16 / xl and 6 foot when not pg there is NOTHING around that will fit me any time soon let alone when I am nine months...Im thinking I will be wearing hubbies clothes constantly. Seriously nothing out there maternity wise except singlets, and a few kmart things that fit. Forget pg jeans and trousers for me! Im gonna have to wear the elastic waisted skirts I already have me thinks....

I had heaps of problems getting clothes as I needed work and casual clothes (size 18ish). EGG was ok but expensive so in the end I got all my clothes from an american web site - www.motherhood.com. They are about the only company I know that ship outside of the USA. The courier fee was expensive but I got most of the clothes on sale so even with the courier fee on it it worked out well. One pair of trousers were to small and I need to sell them on trade me but everything else was great. I like them so much I still wear some of the T-shirts. Remember that it is summer in America at the moment so there summer stuff will be on sale soon and that would be perfect for due date March.

yeah after writing my post i decided to go onto some usa websites for stores I used to shop at when living there...(got sidetraacked by baby bedding en route LOL) and found some cool stuff that i think I will order shortly as they into summer and sales coming up and get sent to my family over there....was heaps cheaper and some went up to 4xl maternity...not that i need that but was good to see.
I have problem of needing work wardrobe of professional office and then casual too - DH is HUGE 6xl so im all set for shirts etc and his trackies when i want to get conmfy! tee hee

you can also get a belly belt to fit into your usual pants. they are around $40 but have 3 different sizes to adjust to the expanding belly. i got one when preggy with jack and am using it again. it's not too good by itself though unless you have long tops to cover the open zip, but i also have a belly band to wear over it. you can get them off trademe for around $8-15 and supre have really good ones that are longer. another option is a boob tube

MORNING SICKNESS SUCKS!!!

I keep telling myself that it is too early, but right now I could easily curl up around a toilet and I think I would be quite happy. Stupid travel calm has not helped, nor has the gingernuts I have been eating. I am trying to sip water but nothing, and keep eating in the hope that it will help, but no let up. All I want to do is go home, curl up in bed an come out when I hit 12 weeks, do you think it could be done?

If anyone has any ideas on how to bring up platlets it would be nice. The only reason I have to spend the night is after a trasfusion I don't know who I am, where I am or anything. Last on I had I was in my "own" world for 3 hours, only came to as the nurse questioned me again and I told her she was a nurse as she had the special watch so I must be in a hospital, but I didn't say hospital properly and to this day hubby still makes fun of me.

MS, eat toast and get the wonder drugs. I am on what I call wonder drugs as they stop me from being sick and now getting nausea. I only got them as I went to see my midwife about something else (I think cold related) and I ended up spending half the time in the toilet. She told me off for not telling her about it sooner and sent me of with a script, that I pick up from her every Thursday (should ask her just to repeat it) just to make me normalish.

i agree toast def worked for me too...mum was forcing it down me but it works...had yummy fruit toast with marmite...so iron too LOL. Anytime im hungry and it isnt meal time I head to toast if im home.
Bought some new vitamins today too...had some already which were good but then realised that they had half the iron and folic than the new ones...yet they were already better levels than most on the market. That annoyed me that doctor etc hadnt pushed that issue for me to take these earlier with my history of anaemia or i would have taken the new ones and had higher levels....bet i get clogged up now from all the iron tho...TMI lol....

Sorry to jump on in here like a nosey parker! Just thought I'd add a suggestion that worked for me with M/S this time round.
Sipping on ginger beer about half an hour before meals really helped ease off my nausea so I was able to eat.
Normally I couldn't stand the stuff, but after those first 3 months I swear by it!
Hope you're feeling better soon guys!

what ones were you and are you taking Bombshell?

Believe me, I am eating, and it has passed the worst part today which is great, but just have that feeling that if I thought about it too much I could easily be sick (kind of self Fulling prophecy). I think part of the problem is I am really tired too.

Now for my newly pregnant friends. Does your cramping and stretchy feeling stop? I have had hardly any today and had kind of gotten used to feeling it.

I'm over the cramping and stretchy tummy feeling. I'm also trying my hardest to ignore any feelings of M/S - I do get a little bit of nusea sometimes but it seems to go away quickly if I sip some water. I have also found that yoghurt and a little sweet eg 1 chocolate helps me heaps when water does not work. My mum suggested crackers and/or toast - I have tried toast and that seems to help too. I have not yet been sick once so I hope m/s will just go away soon.

I am trying all sorts and don't seem to be getting a lot of joy, it doesn't fully go away but sometimes improves.

I have to admit to panicking this afternoon when I realised I couldn't remember feeling any stretch crampy feelings, I have had a couple tonight though.

Are you having a 6 week scan yummmummy?

Hey Bombshell...are you able to recommend any US web sites that deliver to NZ. My favourite shop is Lane Bryant but they don't....just wondered if you knew any others.

LOL i eat fruit toast with marmite anyways...yes Im a freak...this morning was crumpet toast and golden syrup - YUMMY!!!

New vitamins are elevit. The iron and folic is higher in one tablet than in two tablets of the others. Im just hoping they wont clog me or make me sick - took first one today.

Lane Bryant is sooooo cool! I also go onto the sales for Walmart, Target, New York woman, Dress Barn, JC Penney (my absolute fave!)and Sears.
No I dont get anything sent here direct from shops as the customs can charge you gst and import duty on stuff sent directly from shops. So I get it sent to my family and friends over there and they on send it. Still works out cheaper. We got caught out when friends sent some cool clothing from stores direct to us - a $90 jacket ended up costing us another $150 through customs - great way to send a gift huh? Our friends were so upset about it too.

Bombshell, Kmart in NZ should have some clothing for you. I'm a 16/L and when I was pregnant with Andrew I managed to get 3 tops and 2 pairs of pants from there.

i talked to a friend who is a midwife today and she said a seven week scan is normal is someone doesnt really know the EDD or if possible problems etc...but then in talking I think the GP i saw was pretty slack as I have no other appts and only another blood in mid august....so am going to have bloods done this week instead (2nd ones) and then make appt to see the GP who I should have seen first time....
Has anyone else had internal for this pg etc yet? Smear etc? My GP weighed me and sent me for bloods and that was it.

Posted By: Sarah Beth
Date Posted: 22 July 2006 at 6:03pm
My Gp sent me for bloods and that was it, pregnancy was confirmed and she said she would see me again at 10 weeks where we would start filling in the antenatal guide in the pregnancy book I got. She said often they only do the 1 blood test but as I am neurotic they are doing them weekly till week 8, just to check hCG levels.

My smear was done when she found out we were trying along with all the bloods to check for syphilis etc

My smears are up to date so not much has happened on my GP visits. I had my bloods done but GP did not weigh me or check hCG levels or anything. Got given a booklet to read up about food safety and that has been about it. Have been told that I should not worry about anything until week 12-13 and should look for a m/w.

I got given that prgnancy folder from the nurse - quite a handy guide and loads of coupons etc.
I did a tour of birthcare yest - visited the new baby at same time. Got a lot more information but there is soooo much to absorb. Have some names of midwives to try this week. How do I interview a midwife?

Posted By: Sarah Beth
Date Posted: 23 July 2006 at 11:23am
I think there was a post about that before bombshell, try doing a search. Above all though, make sure you are comfortable with them!

Dang, I never got any coupons!!! I am all for free or cheaper stuff.

We had our cot and change table delivered the other week, and I have just made up the change table, it looks great! hubby is in agreement. Can't wait to make the cot up now, but that might be a job for hubby.

Our next big purchase will probably be a pram. I really want one where I can have baby facing me but they seem to be few and far between. Mountain buggy is appealing with the bassinet attachment that will lie baby flat towards me.

What type of carseat are you looking at Sarah Beth? if you were planning to use the capsule you could get those snap and go wheels to go on it then baby would be facing you (very handy might i add) for the frist little while but you could still get a normal buggy so once they big enought to sit they can look at the world around them. or you could get one of those buggies that fits the carseat/capsule in it, because baby faces you with those as well and i think the buggy and carseat usually come as a package.

the folder my doc gave me was put out by "bounty" and had heaps of stuff in it including the 2005 preggie book with coupons etc inside it.

Well we will be converting the upstairs guestroom (near our room) into a nursery - wont take much as it is already bright oranges, and has gorgeous curtains and a blind on it. Baby will get its own ensuite -handy for me if up in the night etc. But we will have to rearrange furtniture etc so wont be doing that until closer to the time as need to work out if the queen bed can fit in downstairs guest room! So no cot etc for us yet.

DH did put stroller on layby - again no room at home yet so easier to do it that way. I let him buy the Holden 3 wheeler stroller - i really wanted the jeep one but as he was showing interest I let him get that! They also do car seat, portacot etc but Ive seen a nice bouncer I want so hes not getting that. Also think I have decided on one of those cot inserts - like a hammock that goes in the cot - instead of moses basket etc...our room will have cot in for a little while anyway, plenty of room. So much to do....

Bombshell - that book you got sounds great - I'll have to ask at my next visit to the GP.
You guys are soooo much more organised than me - we had not even thought about cots, prams, change tables etc etc. We don't even know which will be the baby's room yet - the study or the spare room. Still plenty of time right? I mean my tummy is still flat - baby is only the size of peanut and won't need anything for many more months, right???
A question for all "lurkers" with babies on this thread - how long before the birth did you start "stock-piling" baby stuff?

I waited till I was about 15 weeks before I brought anything, just incase anything did happen. That was with my first. This one I have already started to buy cans of baby food and nappies. One thing I am going to make sure of is that we have at least a months supply of nappies before this one is born. I have told people that if they want to get us stuff it is nappies and wipes etc to get as I have all the clothes and blanket etc. However if this one is a girl (and we are pretty sure it is due to the sickness) then we will be getting a few "pink things" for her.

I bought a few little baby clothes at a JK sale before I got pregnant with the twins, Willie thought I was nuts coz I had just had the m/c but they were on sale
I put the cots on layby at about 12 weeks or so, and Mum and Dad bought the pram when I was 17 weeks but only coz I was in Australia at the time and could get a great deal on it. And started buying a pack of disposables each week with the groceries pretty early on.
But we waited till we found out the sex to go serious shopping!

Well i'm back from a week in Dunedin helping my little sister settle in to her new city. It was very sad leaving her there - she has lived with me for the last three or so years and is my bestest bestest friend in the whole world. for me and for her. We had a great week together in Dunedin though - exploring a new place. I found a great place that made fresh sandwiches and had those for lunch twice in a row!! Mmmmmm - I am loving sandwiches at the moment with lots of lettuce and tomato... I had no nausea in Dunedin at all. Since I have been back in Welly, the nausea is back. I think it might be related to travelling in the car. We didn't travel in a car at all while we were away so I think it might be motion sickness from driving since i got back!!
Found lots of great baby things in Dunedin so will be sending my sister $$ to pick things up.
Nice to be back on here and catch up with everyone. Hope all your preggy ladies are well

things are setting me off at the moment as well my boss today gave me the NZ pregnancy book for me to read that got me all teary eyed, however had to quickly nip it in the bud as she is the only one from work that knows.

Morning sickness is still hanging around. I still haven't been sick but feel I could if I let myself. Getting a bit sick of it now, so looking forward to the finish of it.

I have purchased a few maternity clothes now which is great, and the next thing we will be looking at is the pram. I also have the visa points I redeemed for Farmers vouchers so they will all go towards baby stuff.

Scan is next monday and can't wait!

Anyway - I was moaning about people at work eating things like pies and sausage rolls cos the smell makes me feel really really sick. YUCK!! And someone had a bacon something today and that set me right off. It was so strong and she was sitting quite a way from me. Boo Hoo

How was everyone today? Hope you are all good. I can't wait till I am showing and have a nice round belly to show off.

I am so the opposite with smells. Yes Pies and Sausages Rolls set me off but Bacon Yummy. I have a thing for Bacon and Egg Muffins from McDee's. I always make sure that they fully cook the egg yolk, one woman looked at me and I told her I was pregnant, did she want to be held responsible for a MC. She just looked at me and made sure they were cooked properly and they are yummy. Spec as we have vouchers for 2 for $4 yum.

LOL Sarah - last night I fell asleep on the couch before 8pm. I missed Christopher's bedtime and kissing him goodnight.

I have to say I have the best boss!!! I have told my bosses already about the fact that I am pregnant due to suffering really bad morning sickness. Well one of them gave me the NZ pregnancy book the other day, and she came over today to check how I was feeling and said if I was tired or not well I could lie down for awhile, and if it was really bad they would arrange for a taxi to take me home.

On top of that she told me she is really excited for me, and looks forward to the pregnancy progressing, and has told me they will do what they need to to accomodate me when I want to come back. I think I am so lucky to have such a great work place, and such a great boss, she is awesome!

Wow Sarahg Beth, the boss I have now is good too. If i'm too sick to work hes not that fussed. Only happened once over 1 weekend.

But my previous job when I was pregnant with Andrew was a nightmare. I worked with about 250 other people for a large company in New Zealand. At the time I was pregnant there was alos about 20 other woman pregnant. I collapsed one day at work just because I was just so busy and everyone was asking me questions and I was always in demand. I collapsed just as I finished afternoon tea about 4pm and the ambulance was called as they could not wake me and we had a st johns guy working and he called the shots. That was fine it didn't worry me, but... when I came back to work on the Monday (I collapsed on the Friday) my boss had been told my her boss (the GM) that it had to be interviewed documented and would lead to a written warning if I was sick again. Hello when you are pregnant you can't do that to someone. I turned around and told the GM if she wanted to give me a written warning go for it, but I would see her in court as the department of Labour would love this case. She turned to me and said "OH someone knows the rules don't they". I was shocked to think that they were going against rules put in place to help people. I know it is a large company but they can't do things against the law.

I never got my written warning and became the activist for the other pregnant while I was working there. Which helped other people out as well.

Thats aweful!!!! I hate the expectations of having to come to work when you feel like a big piece of crap!! My old boss was a Cow and I had great pleasure in telling her where she could shove her job.
I completly understand about the bacon and food smells, it doesn't help me that I am a chef and have to smell these things all day, yesterday was the 1st time I actually vomited though.
Had my 1st scan on Wed. SOO EXCITING and theres only 1 YEAH!!!!! was getting alittle nervous for a while, everything is healthy and growing, except she found a cyst by my ovary somewhere, which is apparently quite normal to get one in pregnacy, and explains the pains I have been having on my right side. And my EDD was spot on according to her, Roll on march 3rd .
Looking forward to being on the other side of the 1st 3-4 months, feel like I am hungover all the time except without the fun getting drunk the night before
