Hi,
I'm glad this thread started up again, we have male factor infertility too, count is 2 million, motility was 7% and up slightly at 14% with SA a month ago. We are on the waiting list at Hamilton FA for ICSI next October- a 20 month waiting list, I couldn't believe it when I found out how long we would have to wait. But am getting over it now and trying to stay positive and enjoy the next 20 months as time with DH! I have been reading a bit about other ladies on here doing IUI even with a low count and was just wondering if this might be an option for us to try while we are waiting? The FS never mentioned it to us so maybe it's just not possible...does anyone else know much about it? And also was interested about the horny goat weed- I have read about that before but didn't want to waste our money...but now I have seen a success story so might try it! Rubyrock congrats on your BFP-that's awesome! xx

Wow, blast from the past seeing this come back up again.... We are back on the TTC wagon again, seeing as it took so long to concieve Jae, we figured the sooner we start trying, the less likely we will have another big age gap, we are giving ourselves until her 3rd birthday to concieve on our own, and if unsuccessful by then I will be going back to work and trying to save $ for fertility treatment, we are no longer eligible for any publically funded treatment since I already have 2 kids (even though 1 of them isnt Dp's)
congrats rubyrock :)

HI JaneW - my DH has low motility and we went through IVF treatment with ICSI. We were not given the option of IUI, probably because my DH's sperm do not swim very well, which means there is a very slim chance that they will reach the egg and penetrate. Hence the ICSI procedure where they physically place the sperm inside the egg, so that it does not have to make the effort to move at all! The waiting list really sucks for infertility doesn't it. We are over in Auckland and were told that it was a 18 mth wait, but because of my age, we cannot wait that long, so we forked out privately - ouch!! At least you have plenty of time to prepare yourself for it - good luck

Hey girls,
My DH has motility issues and is on Menevit. You can now get it from the pharmacy which makes things a bit easier!
It has had some good write ups for improving sperm quality.
All the best to you all and congrats Rubyrock!

Hi Flipsta, my DH was also on Menevit, altho there was a slight improvement in his sperm, we still needed to undergo ICSI to conceive. I see that you are in the IVF thread - I hope your journey is successful hun Hopefully, you'll be able to join us in the babies due after ivf thread soon - fingers crossed X (there is only two of us in there at present, so we desparately need more little beans

It looks like I am going to be in the same boat as a lot of you ladies.
DH has had his first count and it is 3 million, 25% motility. Test again in 10 days so we will see.
My tests are all good at the moment so it looks like it is all down to DH at the moment.
We havent been trying for very long - only 8 months TTC, but I am glad we got checked out.
If we do need to have IVF (which the doctor is leaning towards at the moment if DH's tests stay the same), we will go private. The waiting lists are too long and we both want to start a family now.
We only found out all this news last week and I think DH is feeling less like a man at the moment. I am 100% confident we will be able to have a family, but he seems to think he has let me down. Did anyone else have this problem?

Hi Kiwikt, I think it's the most natural reaction from a man to behave like this. I know my DH felt a little mythed by it all, but with a little reassurance he got over it, and of course, not is all lost, because our first ivf cycle with icsi succeeded - I am now 16 wks pregnant, so I hope my success inspires you

kiwikt, thats one of the reasons I found boards like this one very useful, where i could talk about the struggle to concieve, without making DP feel even worse that he wasn't able to give me the baby we wanted so badly... I didnt really talk about it to him except to let him know AF was here so we couldnt 'do' anything... I felt like it would be rubbing it in his face if I talked about anything TTC related to him!
Good on you for getting proactive about the tests, we did our first lot after 9 months actively TTC (12 months without birth control) and I am glad we did otherwise it would have taken even longer to get our baby!

Update on the tests...
DH got his second sperm test results today. And they are as bad as the first.
I need to book in to see the fertility specialist in the next few weeks but she told us originally if the second tests were as bad as the first then we would need IVF.
Looks like my holiday to Rarotonga will be put on hold so we can afford the first round of IVF. Sink.
Will need to go home and give DH a hug tonight...I think he is feeling really bad.

Really sorry to hear that kiwikt, hugs to you too . We're in much the same boat (slightly higher numbers, DH has had two SAs come back at 7M and 8M), and I have clomiphene-resistant annovulatory PCOS which I've recently had surgery for to try and improve. We're heading for IVF too, though publicly as our funding comes up in January. It's not easy to go through this, for either party. Hang in there, it's wonderful that you can get started with IVF quickly, and hopefully your wee miracle happens in the not too distant future. Where are you based in the country? You may already know this, but if you're in Auckland Fertility Plus seems to be quite a lot cheaper than Fertility Associates.

Ceres - not to long to wait then...January will be here before you know it. It sucks you have to deal with both sperm problems and PCOS. I am so grateful for the technology today.
We are in Auckland, and am already with Fertility Associates. I have heard Fertility Plus is cheaper, but we will probably stay with FA because I like my specialist. I think the difference is a couple of grand, and when you are talking the difference between $10k or $12k it doesnt feel that significant. Either way the bank account is going to look sick for a while!

Ahh, if you're at FA I take it you're with Mary Birdsall? Absolutely understand wanting to stick with her, she seems wonderful. Best of luck!

Hello to you all..
This will be out 4th round of ivf/icsi - ouch!
DH has not only got sperm antibodies due to vas reversal but we just found out DNA damage too...!
He has just had a TESA procedure done (he was pleasently suprised it wasnt that bad..) so got frozen swimmers and hoping for better quality as these little guys are brand new..
See the thing is that the damage can be also due to being in body too long (takes 3 mths to make sperm so when ejaculated sperm its 3mths old already ) hard to understand aye...
OMG tell ya what a rollercoaster... im now on the pill and will be starting my injections soon im sure when i get the call from FA to collect...
Has anyone had the same issues as us and had the tesa procedure and got a bfp??? love to know as we are soooo hoping for this to work..

Kiwikt, our story is similar to yours...after ttc for about 9 months we asked to have some tests done , we just had a feeling something was wrong and we were right, DH's count was 2million and motility 7%, he has been on menevit for about 6 months since then but no improvement...not in numbers anyway. We are on the public funded waiting list and doing ICSI next July, I think it's great that you are doing a private cycle, I keep swinging that way myself as I can't stand the waiting and not being able to do anything, but DH just wants to wait until the funded cycle which is fair enough.
He too felt like he had let me down hugely when we found out we were dealing with MFI, my tests have all come back okay so far so he feels gutted that I am the one who has to go through all the invasive IVF stuff....but I have never though of it that way, to me we are in this together and I always try to refer to it as 'our' thing.
Mtjt, Good luck for your 4th round...I don't know too much about tesa although it has been brought up by our FS if DH's count keeps getting lower...That's good that your DH didn't find it as bad as he thought it would be!
I notice you're in tauranga too...are you part of the support group there?I was just at my first meeting a few weeks ago, found it great.Anyway hope everything goes well for you and fingers crossed your bfp isn't too far away.

Hi Swampy10 - just want to wish you luck on your next donor transfer tomorrow, I shall keep everything crossed for you. I know what you mean about the 2ww, it always goes so slowly, but try and keep yourself busy and distract yourself as much as poss - look after yourself and I look forward to hearing (hopefully) about your BFP xxxxx
