I agree with Deb about stickying one or two nappy threads, otherwise, condisering the strength of some of you ladies addictions, ohbaby runs the risk of becoming a cloth site!!!! |
Sorry ladies but I agree. I don't think there is a need for a separate forum. Stickifying the topic is a great idea!!

At the end of the day its something that is beneficial to the site.
In regards to the "other forums" that have been suggested in this post it comes down to Emmas boss on what they think.
I still think that stickying a topic can cause mess you would still have to sift through posts in that topic which would more than likely become pages and pages in length and you also run the risk of asking a question that will get passed over or missed. At least with a forum there are topics.
I dont see why there cant be a forum that is monitored.
But like Emma said its only a possibility if there are enough people interested.

Yeah, I agree with Jess.. wading through a long posts is horrible because the subjects jump from one to another and I very rarely ever find what I started out looking for even though I know it's in there

Also had another thought.
When i first joined OB it was really small and quaint and everyone knew everyone else. 2 years on its gotten ALOT bigger and as a friend of mine off here has stated it has grown in a mere few months even more since she joined.
OB will eventually have to grow and add on to accomodate what the new users are wanting out of the site. OB is not only a forum for mums and dads and parents to be but its also a shop now. A business so to speak.
Competition with other sites is healthy and therefore a few new forums is a good thing for the growth of the site.
GandT i reckon a dads section is a good thing for the men maybe its invisable to us so only the dads can see it that way they can have their own space to talk about dad stuff without feeling strange...if they do that is.
Unfortunately things change, and as much as we want them to stay the same, business, accomodating of others and new things change that.
OB is no longer a small site it is turning into a community, so therefore a sticky post isnt gonna cut it now, it will fill up before we know it.
To have a forum is easier to search in when we are looking for specific things.
You can do that with the post but its harder to weed out what you want. Id just like to be able to go somewhere, when i want to post a question and have it answered without it being skipped over (if that makes sense).
Gawd now it sounds like im trying to sell the idea to people. These are just my thoughts on the whole thing and i dont want to be flamed for it.
Hope your still awake at the end of all this hehe

Here's my two cents
I think it should be at least sticky'd if not just have a separate 'Nappies' forum. I had a look at The Nappy Network, and boy is it confusing. Not too mention as someone who is TTC I don't think TNN is as good because by the sounds of things they don't like 'lurkers' and people like me wouldn't have many constuctive things to post there yet, but I love to read about MCNs. I'm not even pregnant yet, but you've all convinced me to go cloth when I do!
Change is good sometimes. And it does seem like it is the most talked about subject on here?

Ok... now, not wanting to cause an argument or anyihtng, but what if it was a seperate forum, that you actaully have to click into, and dosen't come up when you go into active topics since last visit like the new photo gallery... That way the whole board isn't going to be taken over by three pages of nappy posts when you log in each day, you only see them all if you click into that forum?
Not being rude, or wanting to start an argument or annoy anyone, it is a good idea, as the nappy posts are many, BUT (and this is just my opinion, but I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one?) if I wanted to join a nappy forum I would.
Like I said, just my opinion, not wanting to cause any fights, you know I love all you guys, aye? (after all, I do use cloth part time, myself)

Whew! It's taken me a while to read thru all this! Still processing - not quite sure where to start!
Our advertisers don't dictate what is featured on the site or what is discussed on the message boards, but it is advertising that keeps OHbaby! going and has helped to grow it into the community you all know and love so I'd like to think that when you're making decisions about which products and services you choose you'll take that into account and help support those who support us.
I haven't had a chance to pitch the idea to Angela yet, but will do it in a minute. Stickying one or two of the current threads is definitely a viable option, even if we start a new thread called Cloth Questions or something similar. I do also get that it could turn into a long and convoluted OT thread making it hard to follow, but if a total Cloth board isn't possible, a Sticky certainly is.
Someone else mentioned a Dad's board - it has been considered in the past but there just isn't enough demand for it. Even over on EBB which is a much bigger community than ours the Men Only board struggles. Certainly if there was strong demand for it then we would reconsider it.

I'm thinking along Emma's lines as a secondary option... Your Cloth Nappy Question type sticky topic. People just come in to the last page and post their current question and it gets answered? Just a thought.

no matter what you ask there is always the possibility that it will get overlooked, wether it be cloth or not. and yes i agree that there are boards specifically for cloth whereas this is a parenting board, and i come here because of that. i dont think that if there was a cloth section it would dominate but i also dont think there is a need for one.
maybe instead there could be a section specifically for people with questions they want answered. or maybe we need a cloth expert (or two) like the sleep experts we have.
oh oh - we could have people with specific cloth questions email in and then an "expert" could answer them in the community section...emma did say they wanted to utilise that part of the board more. and maybe the expert could be someone from one of the cloth sites that sell diff sorts and brands - like mothers instinct or snazzipants or bumbles....

I like that idea....after all then you are taking to the makers/distributors directly.
I also don't think change is a bad thing and it's great to see a board grow. But several people have mentioned how TNN is too big I thought they preferred the smaller site like this. After all TNN got that big becuase it grew.
As I say, I just got the impression people wanted to keep this site smaller. *shrug*

Sorry, but I also don't think we need a specific forum, just a sticky.

OK, just saw that there is one now. I hope its not the start of heaps of other new boards as I prefer the smaller site of OhBaby rather than EBB or TNN.

We'll see how it goes - if it gets used then great! If not, we can get rid of it

I have to say even thou I don't use MCN's, I am going to get soem reusable swim nappies just because we go swimming all the time (it's free so we might a well use it) at the local pools. I went over the TNN to have a look about swim nappies and was blown away by all the boards they had. I did manage to get some info about them.
