Had mentioned casually to the doctor when i took DS along for these issues that perhaps it would be an intolerance to something and they just kind of went hmmm and carried on. If this sounds like symptoms of something i will go back and push it but perhaps its all normal baby stuff and i'm being a bit mental (first baby and all!)

Oh - i guess other factors are i have a huge huge oversupply (wondering if its all caused by too much foremilk though i try to express a bit off before he feeds) and i was dairy intolerant as a bubs (goats milk baby!) and his father remains intolerant to this day.
Gma is a coeliac.

His symptoms

*He's very mucousy, he rattles sometimes (that wet snot in the back of the nose sound) and snores and sometimes it sounds like he's got a phlegm ball in the back of his throat.

*He has watery poos - not diarrhea as they're not every 10min, he only poos 1-4x a day but they're not the nice yellow pippy ones he had as a newborn, they're oranger and runnier.

*He has a lot of wind which often gets trapped

*He can be quite spilly (but is happy about it so not reflux?)

*He has had so far three cases of 'tummy ache' where he's miserable for 2-4 days, has slimey poos (sometimes with a slight green tinge) squirms arches and writhes in pain while squealing. Spends those days sleeping chest to chest with me while i sit upright - he'll sleep half an hour or so then arch his back, squeal, i am on hand to rub and shh and soothe then he'll sleep some more repeated through the night.

*The last 'tummy ache' his poos were water but not frequent (1x a day) though i took him to after hours anyway and they said he was fine. He was a bit vomitty over those days too, took him to my regular GP as i feared dehydration but they said he was fine also and all i got told was 'its unusual for a b/f baby to have diarrhea'. Wished i'd brought his liquid poo nappy in to throw in their faces!

*He has had 2x attacks of hormone rash but no excema or other susupcious looking ones. I also had excema right until my teens.

WOW, writing a total essay sorry

Sound like an intolerance to anything? What are my next steps if so?

Totally.

Cooper had the green frothy ones with his dairy intolerance.

Here's what I'd do. Eat as you normally eat but write everything down, see if you can time his tummy aches to a similar food. Cut out that food and see if it helps.

Or trial cutting out dairy from your diet for at least a week. Or wheat seeing there is celiacs in your family.

Feel free to ask questions, I hope I can remember what I did before I ended up on a strict elimination diet.

First of all I would say he is still so young so may be just getting used to feeding etc. BUT it does sound like MAYBE a bit of intolerance maybe, especially if both his mum and dad have a history of food reactions!

I would definitly keep an eye on his symptoms. Keep a diary of everything you eat, times that he has a feed, his nappies each day, his temperament, etc. Everything basically so you have a record you can show the doctor.
If he gets more rashes then take photos.

Try some Gripe water for a couple weeks to see if that helps.

I think you really need to be a detective. In my experience and the number of GP's I dealt with, they really don't know how to help with or even pick up on intolerances and allergies. (I rushed my baby to the afterhours medical centre with anaphylaxis - I didn't know what this was at the time - and was told "It's very rare for babies to be this allergic, it's probably a virus!!)

It took A YEAR of suffering with severe eczema and not sleeping and 2 anaphylactic reactions before he was FINALLY diagnosed, tested and put onto a restricted diet.
This might be even harder for you as it's nothing the doctors can "see".

You could make an appointment with plunket as if you sit down and go over everything with them, they may shed some light on the situation. They can even refer you to specialists I think?

We went through something similar with my wee man and the opinion of my GP was that he couldnt be getting a reaction to something I was eating when he was exclusively BF.

Turns out after me pushing (and pushing and pushing!!!) to get a specialist referral, blood tests etc he was allergic to everything he was tested for (apart from dogs and pecan, go figure!) He was finally diagnosed at about 9 months, and life is so much easier for us now. If you arent happy, get a 2nd opinion but dont let anyone fob you off.

Just wanted to say I agree with the comment about GP's not really knowing what to do. My GP had no idea. So I just bypassed it all and shelled out the money for the best specialist I could find and now my son's been diagnosed with cows milk intolerance and is on neocate which is the best thing ever, if Id kept going to the gp I would have got nowhere and he would have kept suffering. My GP basically said she had no idea. I know its expensive we could barely afford it but it was so worth it not to have to worry and to see my boy get better.

Some of what you say sounds like DS as well so I would definitely get it investigated further.

Thanks guys - i KNEW it wasnt normal! He was VERY squealy this morning and has hardly slept all day, just 20min cat naps then wakes up crying and won't settle again. I'm seeing Plunket on weds so will push her about it and hopefully 2crazykids is right and they can refer me otherwise i'll do what you suggested and find a specialist myself.

You are right as i've taken him to the doc's twice now in the 2 weeks since my m/w discharged me and both times he's appeared happy as while there.

Oh and he is looking much slimmer in the belly today - before he was a beachball stomach, i wonder now if he was bloated.

Fortunatly i live with my mom and so 90% of what i eat is gluten free anyway since i eat with her so will try that one first.

Thanks for the advice guys, really good that im not crazy!

My plunket nurse sent a referral to a dietitian for me, I am not sure on the Pead referral though? We waited 3 months to see a hospital pead.

yeah our PN reffered us to the eczema clinic (pead and nurse) once her bloods came back with all her allergies we got sent to the dietitian
def try the elimination diet and go from there, dairy can take up to 8 weeks to get out of yours and bubs system tho (I definately noticed the difference with DD)
