Did you have stitches/staples after your c-section?

How long was it before they dissolved/were taken out?

When were you able to have a bath (instead of shower)?

Its been 8 days since my c-section and I am dying for a nice bath! I still have a dressing over my wound and dont know when I'll see my midwife so I can ask her.

I had dissolving stitches. I was able to shower or bath after the surgery, but just had to make sure that the scar was completely dried afterwards.

Not sure when they dissolved exactly. The tape that goes over the scar came off after about a month I think. Just leave it on til it comes off on its own.

Mine had disolving stitches in it but no cover over it, only two pieces of tape at each end holding the ends of the thread down. I was able to shower straight away. No one said not to have a bath, im sure it would be fine as long as you make sure its properly dry afterwards.

Same as above, disolving stitches at each end with c section with DS2. had no dressing on it after about day 5 so it could heal. But different story with DS1 had staples and didn't air it enough and it got infected.
I would contact your mid wife and ask if you can have the dressing off to let the scar get air and heal. That worked for me and no infection second time around.
Good luck

Thanks! I'll call the midwife tomorrow and ask when I can take the dressing off.

I cant remember how it all worked last time round but I think my OB removed my staples/stitches last time round so dont think I had the dissolving ones

Congrats on your new baby AzzaNZ!

I had staples, I had every other one taken out by a mw when I was discharged from hospital (6 days after the birth) and the rest taken out by my mw the following day on her home visit.

I'm not sure about the bath as I only had a shower but the dressing was taken off by my mw the same day she took out my staples.

I too had disolving stitches, tape was taken off 2 or 3 days post baby.  Had a shower just before tehy took the tape off, ment to help it come off easier apparently.  No one said anything about not having a bath....

Hmm, the OB who did my section does thing a little differently apparently.. but my dressing came off the day after i got home (so Day 6).

Mine was done so the stitches were all inside except the ends, I had a knot at each end of my scar that had to my snipped off but then they dissolved.

I still dont know how that worked LOL

I was able to shower as the dressing was waterproof but not sure what the OB did for you?

I would think it needs to come off soon though hun, it will need to dry out and heal!

Congrats on a safe arrival!

I had the dissolving stitches as well, and one thing that shocked me was the little tiny lumps at either end of the internal sutures which I could start to feel after a couple of weeks, but my midwife checked them and said they were perfectly normal. Kinda grossed me out!!

Hopefully you've been able to ring your midwife and treat yourself to a bath!

Thanks, midwife checked my wound on Tuesday and said I could bath (thank heavens!)

The wound looks good but feels super sensitive.

I had Dissolvable one with Bella and I could shower right away.
With Caden I had one long stitch and those bead things, I had the stitch and beads out on day 5, but I remember showering before then.

Congrats on your new bubba

I had dissolving stitches and the OB told me to keep the plaster on for 10 days afterwards and MW wouldn't let me have a bath til 14 days after just to be sure.  I didn't have any probs though was all nicely healed but man it was sooooooooooooo good having a bath.............I was hanging out for it so know how you felt.

My scar is super sensitive still as well and the skin above it has days where its sensitive and numb feeling to feeling normal.........weird but all part of healing I guess

Congrats on the arrival of your bub too
