    Posted: 01 April 2011 at 7:13pm
Hello everyone,
Am hoping someone out there can help.
Just had my 2nd insem with Donor Sperm at Fertility Associates.
My blood test today showed LH at 31 (yesterday was 16). I had an insem yesterday at 16 & today because my LH went up to 31.
My question is, why do F/A do insems on the day of the LH surge when 99.9% of the info I can find online suggests the IUI should be done AFTER the surge. Because the surge indicates ovulation is going to be happening, not is happening.
Frozen sperm lives for 12-24 hours right? So let's take 12 hours to be safe.
Therefore if they do the insem on the day of the surge, it's too early right?
I am reading that ovulation typically takes place 24-36 hours after the surge.
I don't really get a straight answer from F/A but have requested for our 3rd go of IUI that it is done 24 hours after my highest LH surge. Still waiting for approval.
Anyone done this? Advice??? Thanks so much.

Hi Kaipara
Our IUI's were done with a fresh sample combined with a previously frozen one. It was a couple of years ago now, and I'm sorry I can't remember all the details. So I'm not actually much help - I'm really not sure of the timing though I think the inseminations were done the day after the surge. We twice had a trigger injection to make sure they gotr the timing right - maybe you could ask about that? I still had the blood tests and scans to check that I had some follies were growing, and when they get to a certain state of maturity (sorry, can't remember the details of that either) you do the Ovidrel injection to bring on ovulation and 36 hours later have the insemination.
I hope that's some help, vague thought it is!
BTW, we had ours with F+ - had a consult with FA and wasn't impressed. F+ were lovely but seemed overworked, so we're with Repromed now - only had one consult and a couple of phone calls, but so far I'm impressed.

Didnt want to read and run but dont really have anything to add either.
I am also doing IUI with Donor for #2 at mo, #1 worked first time with them doing IUI on what was day 12/28, this time is taking a little longer. I have a bt to track my cycle down as well as up and last cycle for ie, it was looking up on the sat, booked IUI for Sunday with BT to conferm timing, and a follow up bt on the monday to make sure it had gone down which it had. I know that probably doesnt help but I think they know what they are doing and It does work!!!! Good luck and ill keep everything crossed for you

Hi

Just saw this otherwise would have commented earlier. My little bean is the result of my 4th unmedicated IUI using frozen donor sperm.

Was also with FA ... can't remember my exact numbers, however I was also temping so know they actually hit my ovulation day each time. They did the same as for Caronz in that they did BT each day from day 11 and then did it again the following day to ensure that the numbers were coming down.

They probably did the IUI the first day as they would have expected you to surge quickly, and when the next day's bloods came in they knew they needed another IUI just to make sure.

The length of time that sperm lasts is particular to the individual, in the same way that no two women ovulate exactly the same. Also our ovulation can alter each month, for example the month I got pregnant I ovulated on day 12 instead of day 14/15.

If at all concerned talk to the nurses at the clinic they are really lovely and will answer any questions you have.

Good luck!
