I had a c-section with my first child 3.5 years ago due to her being breech, it turned out thsi was a hidden godsend and if i had of gone into labour it could have been fatal!!

So now i am terrified that the same thing will happen and i just want to opt for a c-section again....can i just ask for or demand one??

I had a good experience with my first c-section!

I think (but don't know for sure) that if you have had a c/s you get the option to do that 2nd time. I think that as you have had a c/s you have to see an obs this time round (at about 7 months I think) and will be able to talk over the options then. Would probably be worth talking to your midwife about it too.

Yes that is right. If you have a VBAC there is always the chance that it can 'pop' so that's why the option is there to have c/s 2nd time. A friend of mine did that, the reason she had the first c/s was because the baby wouldn't decend - I think his chin was tilted? And then she got a 2nd c/s with no probs.

I'm glad this thread came up, because I was wondering the same thing (when it comes time for #2 ). I had heard that your MW automatically refers you to an OB at about 24 weeks to discuss options, and that you have to have a hospital birth due to the risk of c/s scar splitting, as busymum said, and for monitoring...still don't know whether I'd try for a VBAC, I'd be too scared I'd have the same problem as I had with Bella Plus I don't want to go overdue again

Thats right i guess, the MW has told me i would be referred at 26 weeks but i thought that was due to other issues......i will have lots of meetings with the ob though so will try talk him into another c......

I also had a c/section due to breech and my specialist said no trouble if I want another c/s for my next baby. As he said 'it's just another way to give birth'.

If we were going to ahve any more kids I would go elective c section. I am not interested in trying for a vbac - lets face it, second time bubbas are not usually any smaller unless there is a reason for it, so we would have every cahance of going through an another 2 day labour to only have to have an emergency c again!

i would go c section again and WILL!!!

Ella was breech! and HUGE....and if i went into labour we had HUGE risks....(wont bore you as most of the people on here know it all already!)

I say ask and get another one for sure...why risk it - esp if there was a reason bubs was breech - for me next one will probably be breech also....

Is that true Bombshell? cos mine was breech and when I asked midwife about chances the 2nd one would be I didn't get a straight answer. I would actually like to try VBAC next time (Breech was the only issue we had, so understand why others wouldn't esp with having big bubbas, bad experiences etc)

Cuppatea, it's not hereditary to have breech babies, i think it's just something that happens I have lots of friends that have had succesful VBACS , it's up to you at the end of the day, if you want to try and there is no major risk, why not?
I personally just dont want to as i am so scared the same thing will happen.

Oh yeah I totally understand that if you've had a bad experience you would want to have a c/s next time, I had a really good experience with mine so if I had another breech baby etc I wouldn't hesitate to opt for it again.
I just wondered cos from what BS said it sounded like if you have a breech your second is likely to be one too.

I think perhaps she may have been meaning that she had reasons for her baby being breech and those reasons may happen again.
In my case the cord was only 2 inches long and the Placenta was falling apart, mu baby never would have survived a VB and the only reason i had a electiveC was because she was breech, they couldnt see on the scans she was not well, she couldnt have turned if she wanted to, poor poppit.

Very lucky she was breech then, how very scary for you, glad it worked out ok. I wouldn't want to try a VBAC if that had happened to me.

ok maybe you guys missed my whole dilemma then....we have (i mean me!) have a bicornuae uterus so bubs was a highly likely breech birth and poss arrival anytime from 28 weeks....Ella managed to stretch my uterus more than anyone thought...however still poss for me have another breech bubba next time...also my condition is not often found in 1st bubbas but in second ones and is reason for a 2nd breech a lot....

but then i had such a positive c section experience that i wont even consider a vag birth next time....and I dont feel like i have missed out on "giving birth" at all!!!!!
