I have a question for those with identical twins - how identical are your identicals and could you tell them apart to start with?

In the beginning I had no idea which one was which, we put bracelets on them with their names engraved on them but in photos I couldn't pick which one was which. It took about 6 weeks to begin to be able to tell them apart.

Now I don't think they look identical at all, but people who meet them for the first time always comment on how identical they are. To me they look completely different and when I look back at their baby photos I can tell which one is which by their expressions even tho at the time I had no idea.

Our girls were completely different at birth. Esme had a mashed nose and Hazel was bigger so it was easy for us but as time goes on things change. I now have some days where I'm completely baffled (esme has a scar on her groin from a hernia op) and others where they seem as different as night and day.
Hazel has always been one pound heavier so as soon as I pick them up I can tell.

It can be tricky though! What I want to know is how many are dressing their twins the same? I usually dress them different so family members can tell who is who. I always put Esme in something pink and Hazel in any other colour. But I gotta admit I do think they look cute matching

was hard to tell the boys apart, they had the CPAP hats on, and were so tiny, but I could after awhile, plus they both act diff, in the hospital Zavier was stroppy (his blood pressure would rise if I held Luke LOL)

And we dress them diff, although for xmas day we though are going to dress them the same to confuse all haha
I can tell them apart now, Zavier has chicken pox scars poor wee man :)

Well mine are like chalk and cheese but somedays I dress them the same. These are normally the days that I'm too tired to bother thinking of 2 outfits to put together

When they're first born people always wanna buy them matching outfits lol! So sometimes you don't get a choice but I love testing my Mum by dressing them alike sometimes!

I also don't have twins, but as a first time mum who is amazed at how anyone manages 1 baby and a toddler I am totally in awe of mums who have multiple babies.

Does fraternal mean they were not identical.

I'll get out your thread now.

Yep, fraternal is non-identical.

I dress my girls the same 99% of the time coz its cute, it's easier and it confuses people . In fact now they fight if I try and dress them in different outfits, they hate to think that one is getting something that they're not. They do have a few outfits that are the same but different colors tho.

There was 1/2 a pound between my girls but I couldn't tell the size difference by looking at them. They've pretty much caught up with each other now tho, they were only 100g apart at their 2 year check.

Bugger about the pox Bext1! Did they both get it? Mine had it at about 10 mths and the baby has it atm.

This is my two in their bikinis about to go in the paddling pool a couple of weeks ago.

That is just that sweetest photo Emma!! What beautiful wee girls

Haha I just went to meet the CHCH girls from this site for a coffee group and being that it was my first time meeting everyone wasn't sure where I was going. Anyway I pulled onto the street and saw a Mother getting out of the car with a capsule. Figuring that it was the house I was going to I pulled up behind her and asked if she was part of the group? She said she was so I get my girls outta of the car to follow her then as we're standing on the driveway of this house (this lady had twins by the way) a couple of other Mothers with twins in capsules start up the driveway?!?! Turns out I was at the wrong house!!! I was 2 doors down from the house I was meant to be at, but this house had a Mum of twins that hosts multiple playgroups lol! Talk about random!

So must get onto joing the multiple birth club so I can join in

Lisa - I know what you mean, when I found out I was preg with lil miss people kept teasing me that she would be triplets. I was terrified of more twins but thankfully there's only one of her. I don't know how people with more than one set of twins do it!

When I was preggers with the girls I would always watch the discovery channel because they had heaps of those inside the womb doccos running all the time and theres was one on triplets in NZ. One of the women on the show was pregnant with trips and had I think about 5 kids already!!!! Now people always wanna tell me how hard it must be having twins but I always imagine that womens day and laugh I got it EASY.
She even said at the end of the doc that she wanted more!

I'm a member of our local one. We used to go to playgroup every week but haven't been for ages, it's a bit overwhelming taking the three little ones on my own coz there are soooo many kids there! But they have some good info evenings, I just went to a toilet training one, and it's nice to meet other people who get what it's like to have more than one child at the same stage.

Awww cute Bex! Brings back memories, this is my 2 their first Xmas, I wouldn't get them near Santa now

TTTS was my biggest fear when I was pregnant with the girls, it must have been so scary for you. At one point it looked like Mercedes had stopped growing but luckily it was just the way she had been lying on the scan, the next one a week later was fine and their doppler flows were always good. Of course they tried to be born at 26 weeks which was a little hairy, after that I didn't expect to have to have them dragged out ten weeks later!

I love the Santa photos. I havent got mine on digital unfortunately so cant post them. I love dressing my two boys in identical clothes - often in matching outfits but different colours.

We struggled to tell them apart at first. While in hospital, we kept their beanies on at all times to tell them apart. We have been putting white nail polish on Jordan's little fingernail to tell them apart until just recently. They have only a slightly different headshape but otherwise, they are so identical. Just when you think you can tell them apart easily, something changes and you find yourself double checking or second guessing yourself.

Im part of the Otago MBC but live too far north to go to their main meetings. We have sub-branch meetings in our area once a month but the last 3 times I have gone - nobody else has turned up - not too impressed!

I have to admit I would love to be part of a multiples playgroup but imagine it would be quite chaotic! My girls are just getting into a very clingy stage at the mo and all that maddness could cause them to have a melt down lol! But would be really nice to see some other Mums that are going through the same stuff

I once gave Mercedes Sienna's kidney meds and Sienna Mercedes reflux meds I didn't even realise, I did wonder why Sienna was fussing over her meds when she normally guzzled them off the syringe but I still didn't click till I was half way thru feeding them. Turns out I had put them down to sleep in the wrong cots so I had them muddled up even before I got them up for their meds/feed. Bad mummy!

They're funny now tho. Mercedes was climbing up the bookcase yesterday and I said to her "get down 'Cedes" and she looked at me and said "Me Sienna". I had to double check, little monkey was trying to fool me! They always tell me if I call them by the wrong names, but she's obviously sussed out that they look the same!

I will keep trying with our playgroup - hopefully there is more of a turn-out in the beginning of the new year. I have only one other mum that I know personally that is having multiples - shes a couple of weeks away from them being born. It would be handy to have someone to relate to having twins. Everybody else has no idea unless they have been there themselves. What is everybody doing for christmas for their multiples?

I know I couldn't! It was hard work! I mean, I probably could if I had to but it would be so much worse knowing what I was getting myself into!

I remember being at Birthcare after I had Chiara and I fed her and she was asleep and it suddenly dawned on me that that was it. There wasn't another baby waiting to be fed/changed/cuddled, there was just her. It was so easy!

Of course then Willie brought the gremlins to visit and chaos ensued...

So far so good with me - ask me in another year when the boys are mobile and I probably would say that I would never want to have twins again. At the moment - I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Had a laugh today. Went into the bank and the teller was asking me for tips on how to cope with twins so eventually I asked her if she was expecting twins. She said no but she was going to try to have twins. I felt like laughing at her - some people just have no idea that you cant "plan" twins! She didnt have any heritary twins in her family either. It made my day!

Pretty much! You should see the looks I get in the supermarket when I take all 4 with me!

When the gremlins were babies I seriously considered having t-shirts printed that said "YES we are twins, YES we are identical, YES we are both girls and YES we are big for our age. Any more stupid questions?"

Seriously tho, if I had a dollar for every time someone had asked if they were identical then asked if they were both girls I'd be a millionaire. It's all I can do not to roll my eyes - of *course* they are both girls, they are IDENTICAL!

LOL at the lady wanting to plan twins Cat, if she had any idea what my ferals were like she'd run screaming!

I don't think it gets easier or harder as they get older, it just gets different. You get thru some challenges and you come up against new ones. It depends on their personalities too. Mine are really hard work (and I can say that coz both my singletons are really laid back so I have something to compare them to ), they were refluxy, poor sleepers as babies and are now incredibly full on so the challenge has been learning to cope with that and find ways for them to expend their limitless energy. We still have sleep issues with one of them but in the last 6 months they have improved out of sight, they are far nicer to live with than they were at 18 mths.

Our monkeys were about 8 or 9 weeks old when they started sleeping through the night and all has been dreamy since so boy did we luck out! It was amazing how they both did it on the same night as well We had them in the same cot till around 6 weeks we had them top and tail, but they got too long and were kicking each other lol! Their Daddy is 6ft4 so they're gonna be tall.

MAYA -
When the gremlins were babies I seriously considered having t-shirts printed that said "YES we are twins, YES we are identical, YES we are both girls and YES we are big for our age. Any more stupid questions?"

I could use a couple of those T Shirts! Why is it that even when you dress them head to toe in pink people still ask if they're girls????

Hey Lisa, thanks for telling me about this forum. I would love to join!

14/03/09 EDD two boys, fraternal - Linda

No history of twins in my family - I'm 41 so I am one of those ladies leaving children until later in like and have twins! My other two boys are 5 and 3. Originally tried for a girl for #3 but have ended up with two boys which is fine....knew there was no control over what we had. I'm nearly 28 weeks and starting to feel it. Still working full time although in a couple of weeks plan to cut my hours down and then finish end of Jan.

I've read a lot of books that all talk about the first six months being a complete blur but I'm not sure if I'm in denial I don't see how it can be that much harder than one baby (obviously getting use to the two of them will be a big learning curb). So am I being unrealistic here? I will be formula feeding so not sure if that will help. I'm going to try the podee bottle - has anyone tried this?

Still haven't decided on the pram. Mountain Buggy are bringing out a compact double buggy in May so I'm thinking I will go with the snap n go wheels first and then see what the new buggy is like.

Have joined the multiple birth assoc and they have been gret.

Another question (sorry, might be a few). Do you get your nappies via a bulk supplier or via the supermarket. Same re formula.

Thanks!

Hi Linda

Congrats on your twins!!!

You can buy formula in bulk all you need to do is get your midwife to write a letter saying you are formula feeding and send a copy of their birth cert to the company and you also get it discounted, altho its not for all formula brands and as for nappies we use cloth so I can't help you there sorry.

Hooray the list is growing! Welcome Linda and congrats.

With prams we have a steel craft enigma twin stroller which is a side by side pram. We got it from Farmers for around $400 which was the main reason we got it. It's been fantastic but the biggest problem with the side by side prams is sometimes doors can be tricky to fit through and some stores with small isles.

Its amazing how quickly you adapt to having 2 and the best part is they do EVERYTHING together. So its completely different from having to kids different ages going through different stages. Peice of cake..... most days

My sister had Fraternal boys in her late 30's. I think it's something to do with once your over 30 your body starts pumping out multiple eggs at once? Her boys are complete opposites too. One has brown eyes and hair and the other has blonde hair blue eyes. They look nothing alike! Very cute though. Its nice that they have one that looks like her and one that looks like him.

Our buggy is just a Phil and Teds single with the toddler seat on it as I hated the thought of a big side by side, at the start both Noah and Lola fitted in the top part when it was laid flat then when they were about 3mths the went one in the top one in the toddler seat.

I started out with a side by side but ended up replacing it with a Phil and Teds front and back too coz it's so much easier to get around places. I don't know if my two would have tolerated both being in the top part as Floss' did coz they weren't keen on being that close but I didn't use the buggy much till they were older anyway, to start with I just carried them everywhere in their capsules.

I haven't tried the Podee bottles but I found the easiest way to bottle feed mine was with them in their rockers and me sitting in front of them. Like Floss says you can get the formula discounted, I have the contact details for Karicare and Heinz if you need them. And mine are also in cloth but I buy the Huggies jumbo boxes from Countdown when they are on special for $36.99 each and stock up to use for nights.

I use the Karicare formula as well. Once you are all set up, they have everything on record and all you need to do is make a quick phonecall with your order and they will arrive the next day. So much cheaper ($7 a tin less) and you dont have to pay for postage.

As for disposable nappies - dont know if there is anything similar for either the Huggies or Treasures brands. Let us know if you find something - have heard a rumour about plunket doing something?!?

I use the Pedigree double stroller with a toddler seat. Is heavy and takes up a lot of room in the car but has been handy. Not suitable for travelling with either.

Hope everyond had a good Christmas and New Years. We went out to town and watched the young ones making a fool of themselves and listened to the bands/fireworks etc. Had a fun evening but made me feel old and boring!

Thanks everyone for the information.....very good to know!

My aim was to be asleep by 11pm on New Years eve and I'm pleased to say that was acheived. Of course woke up at 12.00pm to fireworks, then numerous toilet stops but use to that.

Dh and I have been having turns having a sleep in and its my turn tomorrow, yeah!!!

My DH and I have turns at sleeping in, in the weekends too. He starts work really early and goes to bed early too. I am still doing a late night feed and getting up early for the kids in the morning. Not to mention, the odd time one wakes in the middle of the night. I normally only average 5 hours sleep a night so need to catch up occasionally.

What age did your twins stop having the late night feed?

I have a great deal because Jess starts work at 0930 and doesn't get to see the girls before they go to bed at 7pm so he does the first morning feed at 0730 EVERY morning
So I usually get to bed about 1030 and get up around 0800.
We did nothing on new years Jess wanted to stay up but I was slack and in bed by 11pm mind you we had been drinking beer in the back yard since 3pm though lol! Jess is going to the big day out in dorkland this month and I get to go to Brisbane for a weekend at the start of Feb to see friends and get smashed! so we both get a turn at getting away I'm so excited can't wait to go back to Brisbane YAY!!!

Hi Guys,
Thought I would join the twins post. My identical twin boys are 4 months old (3 mnths adjusted). Had TTTS but got to 35 weeks which was amazing & had their final checks in Dec & all is now fine re issues at birth so onwards & upwards.

Both doing really well. Recently I've been feeding them seperately i.e. feed them 1/2 an hour apart but wondered what position you guys found the best to feed them together? Am breast & bottle but am about to ween off the breast because they don't get much from me anymore and want to feed them together. Tried the 2 rockers but my arms get so tired... any recommendations please.

Hiya Twinboys2b Congrats on your boys. Do you know what they weigh now? I think my girls were 2.2kg & 2.7kg born at 37 weeks. You did well to get them to 35wks!

I Stopped Breast feeding after about a month for the same reason. In the first 2 months we always fed one at a time but it was taking too long and they weren't staying on schedule that way so we started feeding them in their rockers on the floor while sitting between them. We still do it that way and now it takes 20min to feed them a bottle and about 10min to feed them solids. It definitly pays to feed them at the same time that way they sync up routine wise. If you keep them completely in sync from as early as possible it makes life so much easier for you.

Also when they were little if one baby would wake up early we would wake the other so they would stay in sync.

Thanks, we've been really lucky & since coming home from NICU we've kept the same routine so they always feed 1/2 hr apart or at the same time, like you said I wake the other if I have another person to help or feel ambitious by feeding them together or on when hubby is home - don't know how anyone can demand feed with twins. Re sleeping we do a dream feed before bed usually 10pm and they sleep till 4am where we put in their dummies in & they go back to sleep till anywhere between 6 & 7.30am when we feed them so I'm hapy about that.

Have next weigh day on Tuesday, I expect 5.5kg for Jacob & 6kg for Eli maybe at a geuss (need to invest in scales). Eli is a huffalump versus little Jacob. Have to learn to put photos up on this.

Not looking forward to solids, must make a right mess of the place & you, still a little while till I get to enjoy that!

Sorry I've been sharing these photos everywhere but I'm so proud heres the girls sitting up for the first time.

Emma - Can you give me the contact for the bulk Karicare formula?

Twinboys2B - congrats, I only got to 28wks with the boys they got TTTs at 20 weeks and it was bad enuf for me to go to Sydney for surgery :)
I still b/f our monkeys at night mostly, but during the day a lil bit still. Although now they are on solids, a bottle is easier and we put them in the pram and feed them outside :D
or one in the rocker one in the high chair :)

Gorgeous pics Lisa, love the fairy wings too!!

Bex, I was one week away from going to Sydney, had 2 litres amniotic fluid drained at 2 days under 26 wks which very luckily did the trick and gave enough fluid to Jacob (stuck twin) but still had many nights at hospital with contractions & finally was induced. Was diagnosed at 18wks & stopped work striaght away & even got to give birth naturally (not that that went well at all!). TTTS survivors are definately miricle babies, can't imagine what going to Sydney was like for you.

I feed in rockers too or otherwise feed one after the other if I have time. I just sit on the floor with the rockers either side of me and prop my arms up on pillow on the sides of the rockers - also occasionally prop up the bottles so they can feed themselves if I need to give my 2yr old attention. They are just about at the point that they can hold their own bottles soon.

I found an excellent book for feeding/sleeping routines for twins and multiples. It called "A Contented House with Twins" by Gina Ford and Alice Beer. Its written by the same author who wrote "The contented little baby book" and she has quite strict routines. I have adapted her routines slightly but found it much better than any other book out there. I did simplify her routines too but at least it was relevant.

Haha apparently theres a woman that lives across the rd from me that gave birth to twins a couple of weeks ago! Will have to keep an eye out

Wow Bex and Twinboys2b can't believe what you guys had to go through must have been so traumatic
I read up on the old TTTS knowing that it would be a possibilitly and it was always a fear at the back of my mind. Esme did slow down at one stage and was always smaller but luckily no problems.
Bex I can't believe they had to send you to Sydney!?!?! You'd think they'd have the resources and people here??? Goes to show how small our country is. Must have been a real shock

Good to see all happy and healthy babies have resulted though

Just a Q: do any of you have sleepy babies?

Both of mine sleep for ages. Have to go wake them now because it's been 5 hours since their last feed. Their usuall routine is they wake at 7am: I feed, change then play (lasts for a total of 1 hour awake) then they go to sleep for 3, then up for an hour & back for another 3 etc etc until we do a dream feed at 10pm & back to sleep till the morning. I'm not complaining one bit but wonder if anyone else has these sorts of babies? I just took them for a 1 hr walk and they havn't woken after 4 hrs asleep so am off to wake & feed them... and no they arn't too hot either or looking dehydrated.

My girls have always been MASIVE sleepers! They currently do 12hours at night 2x 2-3hour day naps. I was always worried they slept too much, but with how much growing they are expected to do in the first year they need as much as they can get. As long as they are growing and feeding well they should be fine. Mayby check with healthline to be safe or bring it up at your next plunket check?
But yes my girls were exactly the same! Trust me it won't be long before those big sleeps seem to be getting shorter and shorter lol!

Good to hear, it's hard because in no way am I complaining but then it worries me a bit when they just seem to sleep all the time versus other babies. Hope it continues! Have plunket visit tomorrow so will mention it then. Will be good to see their weights as they were very very small for their age - below the 3rd centile as of last month but they guzzle their food (although refluxy) so I have no doubt that they will catch up in weight soon.

I totally get what you mean I kept in contact with all my antinal class mothers and so many of them had trouble getting their babies to sleep one of them has a 6 month old boy who still doesn't sleep though the night! Stuff that lol. Anyway they always tell me things like, poor you it must be so hard with twins or how do you cope? So it always made me think there must be something wrong with my girls for them to be such fantastic sleepers

My Esme was alittle below the lower line for a while but they are both now somewhere along the middle. I'm taking them for their jabs tomorrow so will get to find out thier weights then.

Sounds like your boys are doing great! They sounds very similar to my girls

Just had weigh day at Plunket & both are doing well, Eli 6kg & Jacob 5.3kg @ 4months, their percentage difference in weight is getting smaller at least. Short babies though, hope they don't take after me when they grow up.

Great weights twinboys! Did you find out their length?

We just came back from the doc the girls got their jabs Esme is now 7.7kg 68cm length and Hazel is 8kg 68cm length. Esme is finally catching up to Hazel which is great news Their Dad is 6ft 4 so they might be tall like their Daddy.

Always nice to hear about other babies being the samish weight, as the person before me had a 3mnth baby girl weighing in at 6.4kg but she did only have one & she wasn't prem so can't really compare I supose! They are 55 & 57cm long so are shorties based on the well child books, throughout my weekly scans their length always measured short too but I don't think it means to much (or at least I hope it doesn't).

We have twin twins then, they do sound very similar in behaivour & development.

Yeah I have to admit I always compare my girls to other peoples singletons but its really not the same. Ours will always be slightly smaller than most. My sister has twin boys that are 2 years old but her boys were big for twins at birth they were 7pound and 7.5 pound So I was always freakin out that my girls were behind but really I think ours are doing pretty well for twins They're happy and healthy and thats the main thing.

Sounds like they're doing well and as you say 'happy & healthy'. I guess you have twins running in the family then? Must be nice to have that person there for advice.

I dread immunisations, the 6wk jabs Jacob went cold, sleepy, didn't feed, low temp & we spent a night in hopsital & then had to be observed in hospital for the day for their 3 mnth in case it happened again which went fine so hopefully when it comes to their 5 mnth jabs all goes well.

Does it get hard when they realise a bit more about what is happeneing with the jabs? My boys just squel a bit and then go to sleep but I imagine it's harder when they have a better concept of pain etc.

Nope I was told they get worse as they get older but my girls were fine. I have to get DH to hold them down though cause I can't bring myself to watch I take a bottle with me so immediatly after the jab I pop it in their mouth and all is good. Esme was laughing away 5mins later so it can't be too bad

I didn't do their 6 week jabs untill they were 3 months old because I didn't want so many chemicals in such brand new little bods plus they were 3 weeks early so I had to take that into account. They are currently almost 8 months but just got their 5 month jabs. Must have been scary with Jacob Poor little guy.

Have you joined the multiple birth club?

Hopefully my boys are the same at their 5m. I felt so bad having my tiny little boys who had only been home for a week from NICU have their jabs especially that they don't change the jab fluid amount that their given even though the boys weren't even newborn size. Especially when Jacob reacted as he did.

Yep, joined the club and will start going to their 'playgroups' on Mondays starting in Feb. They have an infant room seperated from toddlers. I don't have an antinatal group so I'm looking forward to meeting other mummy's. And you?

Did you not do antinatal classes? My sister that has the twins said they do multiple birth antinatal classes in Ak which I though was quite cool. They only have them here very rarely if they have enough people so we missed out. I did a singleton class and still talk to a couple of the mothers and keep up with others on facebook.

I haven't joined the MBC yet but have been trying to get hold of them for the last couple of days so I can join a playgroup. I started going to singleton plunket groups when the girls were newborn but I got sick of people wanting to help me all the time assuming I had it really tough because I had 2 Its nice but can be frustrating. Have only just gained interested in joinging a group again. Would be nice to see some other Mommas with their twinnies. I met up with some of the CHCH mommas from this site for a coffee group just before xmas which was cool.

Bummer Floss Hope DH got lots of photos.

I have just discovered that my clever little monkey Esme has gotten her first tooth!!! Very exciting stuff! Its very little and sharp. Its weird how sharp it is, I guess it's so they can break through the skin. Its weird though she hasn't shown any signs of teething it just popped up out of nowhere. Whereas Hazel is getting grumpy and showing signs but no tooth yet.
Can't believe how excited I am over something so silly..... I think I need to get out of the house more lol!

Jabs hurt!!!
Luke and Zavier had their first jabs when they were 6 weeks, in the SCBU, poor lil men, I hated seeing it, they had pricks all the time for tests of all sorts, and eye tests :(

Floss, hope ur feeling better now! I have had a cold since new years eve, and i can't shake it!!

Have two teething monkeys, have been teething for months but STILL NO TEETH!!! grr!!!

Off to Auckland Zoo tomorrow though, hope it goes well!!

Then Thursday the boys have their hospital visit to check up all their bits and pieces and Luke has a hearing test later in the month.... so many tests, due to them being so prem.

Oh and Twinboys2B, I had about the same 2.2 L of fluid taken out in sydney, they thought Zavier wouldn't make it through it cause he looked so sick :( but my miracle boy made it. They don't do the TTTS surgery here atm, although the doctor i was under flew to SYD and filmed me and another lady from Aucks surgery so they can see if it is viable to do here.

What a shame about being sick Floss, I hope they had fun anyway.

Had MB antinatal classes but they were crap and the very few couples who attended lived so far away (north shore & west) that we don't keep in contact, luckily have a few friends with bubs though.

How exciting about getting her first tooth, gosh I'd be as excited as you - not silly at all.

Bex, I was involved in the fundraising campaign to get the right equiptment to do the laser surgery in Auck which should be up and running this year some time. It was on the front page of the latest Mercury Newsletter. We got a professional photographer at NICU who did heaps of lovely photos for the fundraiser which was nice to have.

I know what you mean about hospital visits, am over that place. Obviously ours wern't as prem so not as many tests required but had 5 hospital visits over 2 weeks last Dec which was a pain BUT all is fine & only have 1 more Pead general check up in Feb. Jacob had a hole in the heart which is now gone (very common in prems) plus a few random issues & Eli had a seisure at birth but again all is fine. I suppose you have regular check ups with Simon Rowly (spelling?) or do you go to someone out West?

2 x Q's for you guys:

1: For those who have twins & had another bubs afterwards what age gap would you recommend (or would have liked) and to those who havn't yet had anymore are you thinking you will?

I am not against the idea but understand it will be hard work, was thinking a three year gap would be more managable?

2: Did you/ are you going back to work? If so what sort of childcare did you get and why did you go for that option?

Am looking at options and a childcentre seems too expensive in Auck for 2 bubs so will investigate nanny/ porse or the alike.

Thanks in advance

I don't have any other kids but would love at least one more. I'm also thinking three years sounds like a good age gap. I told DH that once they can do up their own seatbelts we can try for another

I currently have no plans to go back to work. If it had been one baby I would be back now but with 2 it doesn't seem worth the costs of childcare and I love being home with my girls. I would however like to look at a teaching degree at some stage. Probably next year.

My sister that has the twins got a full time mon-fri nanny for her boys once they turned one. Shes great she does all the cooking and cleaning as well. But I think shes costing them around 48k a year

We were too cheap to buy the girls a paddling pool but it was stinking hot today so I got creative :)
The following is the girls having a 'swim' in one of DH's big plastic storage bins Also I'm taking these photos off my facebook page so hoping they're not too big

Hazel left Esme right

I love this shot! They so take after their Daddy here lol!

It was so cute Hazel was getting really upset because Esme kept splashing her

Im flying up to Auckland this afternoon with the twins and my 2 yr old! Im not too worried about how Jordan and Marshall will cope but it will be a challenge to entertain Levi for 2 hours and keep him in his seat. Will let you know how I go.

I do have help however on the plane cos they couldnt guarantee that I would be let on the plane with the three kids by myself. My mum is flying down from Auckland today and them flies straight back with me just to help me with them. I was wanting to put one of the twins in their carseat, another in the front pack and Levi with his reins, but I was told that they wont let me on the plane when boarding if it looks like I couldnt cope. It was completely up to the opinion of the flight crew at the time even though I would have paid for the 3 seats and booked on my luggage. I find it a bit patronising when you are a mum of multiples - you just have to cope - no option! Anybody else with a similar experience?

Thats ridiculous! What exactly do they think is going to happen?

DH and I took the girls to wellington when they were 5months old. They trip over was a nightmare!! The girls had a complete meltdown from the moment we got into the airport. It really freaked me out because they don't cry much and certainly not as hard as they were. Esme was the worst at one point before we got on the plane I almost gave up to take her to the hospital I was so worried. But once we got there they finally settled. The flight home was a breeze they just slept. I think they only had problems because on the 1st flight it was about 2 hours past their normal bedtime so they were just tired and confused

Hope it all goes well Cat Take bottles or dummys with you so they have something to suck on. The loud noise of the plane will most likely send them off to sleep pretty well....I hope lol!
