I'm interested to know why women choose not to birth at home if they experience a normal and healthy pregnancy and are low risk for complications. what are your thoughts? have you chosen hospital over home birth? what were your reasons?

I choose to deliver in the hospital because you never know what's going to happen once you go into labour. Plenty of people have normal pregnancies but it doesn't mean you will have a straight forward labour. Also can't think of anything worse if something did go wrong then having to get into an ambulance and be transferred while your in the middle of labour. This is completely my opinion though and we are lucky we live in a country where women have the choices we do.

I'd always give birth near medical help if possible - as said, things can unexpectedly go wrong, and while the chances are very small if everything looks ok, any chance of something terrible happening is not a risk I'm willing to take.

My uncle is severely brain damaged due to being born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and being deprived of oxygen for too long. It was my grandmothers 5th child, so she was deemed very low risk having had 4 normal labours/births etc. So personal family experience on how it can all go wrong :(

Wish there were nice birthing centres available that had full operating suites as part of them - that would be the best option in my view to have a retirement village type setup with nice rooms/gardens, with the medical stuff right on hand if things go south...

Hi Neta, I had an amazing pregnancy - I've never been healthier... I was very fit and healthy.
I chose to birth in the hospital, and thankfully I did otherwise my lovely little boy and I wouldn't be here now. Turns out I'm a great baby carrier but not birthed :) I can see why ladies birth at home for the comfort and your own surrounds but at the end of the day are you after an amazing birth experience or, a healthy baby and mum?
