Ah ok! I see what you mean if you feed on cue.
No schedule here, I feed on demand (not sure if thats the same as on cue?) and Jackson demand feeds 2-3 hourly. He naturally fed that way since about 3 days old
I guess at the end of the day it works on supply and demand so whether you demand, schedule or cue feed your body will adjust to milk making as bubs is demanding it. As long as whichever your feeding style you use is consistent.

Precisely! (I think anyway) That is great that Jackson got himself into a great feeding routine so early!
And demand & cue feeding is the same thing, I've just recently switched to calling it cue-feeding as opposed to 'demand' which seems to have a few negative connotations - as in IRL when people ask, ''so how often does she feed?'' and I answer ''she's demand-fed so whenever''.... then i usually get ''Oh, you have one of those babies, don't worry she'll get the idea soon enough''
Ummmm

Apparently peanut butter helps milk production?

ANY nuts are a good source of protien and good fats. - I swear by chocolate almonds Peanuts also have vitamin E, niacin and folate. It's one of those choice things - eat the nuts you like, how you like them.

Yeah. DP ate an entire box of Choc Almonds without me even realising. He opened the back of the box and was eating them over a period of time. Went to go grab them this morning...GONE! Every last one.

Before TTC I was taking one one fenugreek and one blessed thistle morning and night. Jake went on a boobie strike and my supply dropped heaps.
I also ate porridge for brekkie and almonds as snacks and had 3 or 4 lactation cookies at morning and afternoon tea time. Lots of carbs and protein and plenty of fluids and rest. Easy right LOL

Hey guys - just wanted to give you an update on our 'feeding strikes' here.
Morgan's now on Losec for reflux and everything is improving dramatically.
Thanks so much for all your advice. I don't know what I'd have done without it.

Here is a recipie that I have bookmarked (for my future reference) I havnt tried them yet, so let me know what tehy are like:
Lactation Cookies!
* 250g pat of butter
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons water
* 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal (or linseed meal, same thing)
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 cups oats
* 1 cup or more chocolate chips*
* 2 heaped tablespoons of brewers yeast
·Preheat oven at 180 degrees C
.Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes.
·Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended.
·Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture.
·Stir in oats then chips.
·Scoop or drop about a heaped teaspoon of mix onto baking sheet, lined with baking paper. Leave plenty of space as they will spread.
·Bake for approx 8-12 mins depending on size until browned.
* NB Chocolate can cause colic in some babies through breastmilk so best to omit until you know either way.
How do they work? The cookies are high in omega 3 (through the eggs and the linseed/flaxseed meal) which is proven to boost breast milk supply. Brewers Yeast is also meant to be a milk supply helper, and is high in protein.
Brewers Yeast and Flaxseed/Linseed meal can be found at health food stores.
Add your own subsitution for chocolate if you wish - e.g dried apricots, mashed banana, almonds/cashews, coconut, etc.
I would like to know if there is anything I can do in preperation of BF to make sure my boobs are up to it, or anything I can do to make sure my milk will come in, or do I just have to wait and see??

I use LSA instead of the flaxseed meal and they are YUM! Its the oats, LSA and brewers yeast that really help your milk and I def noticed a difference when I started having a few for morning and afternoon tea.
DH loves them too and they mixture makes HEAPS.
Emmi I did nothing but when i remembered I moisturised my nipples. My theory was the softer and more pliable the areola was the less chance of cracking. I never understood the whole harden them up thing.. I mean if you make them tough wont that make them more likely to crack???
As for your supply coming in, dont worry about it. Only 5% of women can not breastfeed.. even if there are difficulties it is your choice has to how hard you work to make it happen.
Ask for help! Thats my best advice, when you are in the hospital before you are discharged ask for the Lactation Consultant to visit and watch you feed to make sure everything is ok. When you mw visits you at home ask her to check your feeding... Eating well, keeping hydrated and getting rest is important as is putting baby to breat often in those first few days to encourage your supply.

Thanks for the recipe Emmi. Have printed it off
Ditto what Mel said. Dont have high expectations and remember its a learning curve for the both you and bubs, so dont be too hard on yourself and ask for help if you need it. It does hurt but that gets better with time and perseverance.
I didnt do anything before Jackson was born, except for expressing colostrum (sp?) to bring on labour which must have worked cos I went into labour 2 days later.

Any suggestions for getting baby to drink for longer in the wee hours of the morning??
Lately he's been feeding really well up until 3 or 4am and sleeping for about 3 hours up until then too, but after that he'll only feed for about 5min (frantically, mind you) and then pulls off and falls asleep or just lays there and is not interested in latching back on, he then wakes every hour after that.
I've tried tickling, undressing, changing nappy, unwrapping and then re-wrapping, he'll give a couple of half-hearted sucks after all that and then asleep again or not interested
I need sleep

Emmi, mine were the same on and off through pregnancy. It was pretty gross, but they've been fine since birth and BF has been really easy for me. My MW commented that I had "lovely soft nipples" so I don't see why you would want to toughen them up either? The more give they've got the better for bubs and you I would think?

Hope2B, I'd say he's had his full, Make sure you fully burp him before you put him back to bed, it could be wind disturbing him.

Well we didn't have any better of a night last night, he did drink for longer, about 10-12min each feed and I really concentrated on burping him, got a couple of burps and heaps of farts, but he still woke every hour.
