Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting a hold of my doctor by phone - I'm on a very low dose of Amitrip (10mg/day) and we're thinking about TTC.

I wondered if anyone else has conceived whilst taking Amitrip and what the risks are? I'm trying to come off it but have come off it before and ended up going back on it because my body couldn't deal with the anxiety I suffered without it.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks.

im not sure bout amitrip but i know with my meds there were no significant side effects so i was told that i would do less harm to my baby on the medication, than i harm i would do off it cos i would be stressing, panicking, freaking out in general. i def wouldnt do anyhing without talking to your doc first but he may favour staying on it for the sake of your mental health than taking you off it if the side effects are really rare or minor. sorry cant help more with the amitrip

I conceived on it (30mg) and continued till I got the HPT then came off it for the first trimester. I went back on it at about 16 weeks. At that dose, there should be no issues with BF - studies of women on 1000mg/day show minimal amounts getting into breast milk.

Like Monikah said, have a chat to your GP as sometimes the risks of coming off it outweigh the benefits. If s/he thinks it could be an issue, you can ask him to discuss it with an obstetric physician or maternal mental health team. I am on it for chrnoic pain and had other meds available.
