For me it was a late period, a positive (but faint) pregnancy test, and bleeding starting within about a day. It was heavy, painful and really clotty. I only went on the record with one, but had 3 the same. I just only did a test with the first one.

I have had 2 of those last year, had a really faint +ve HPT, but started bleeding before the 6 week mark, and I never got a strong bfp with either of them. If I hadnt got the +ve, then I would have just assumed an extremeley long cycle for me (normally 23 days and could set my clock by it, but one was 36 days from prior af to start of mc, and the other 32 days)
Like Ginger said, was much heavier and clottier than a normal af, mine went for about a week whereas a normal af for me is about 3 days tops
Sorry to see yours ended this way, big hugs and much luck for next time

Am 99% sure I had one about 10yrs ago - whole body felt different after a slipup with the contraception and period was way late. No BFP tho, but breasts started changing, etc
When AF came it was really heavy and horrible.
Never felt anything like it until getting preggy last year, and then again this year (lost both those tho ). So that gives me the 99% being sure was a chem preg/MC, the BFN is only thing that gives me any doubt at all.

I've had 2 chemical pregnancies in a space of 5 months. With both I got a faint positive with a urine test a day or 2 before AF was due. And also a low but positive blood test....then bleeding around time AF would have been due.
I have always believe that a chemical pregnancy was one that showed positive around time AF was due (or before) but bleeding started pretty much just after.....not a couple weeks, such as being 6 weeks pregnant...this case would be a 'normal' miscarriage.

Thanks for all your responses.
Just another question.
When you bleed, what was it like?

possible TMI warning....
chunky and gross! thick, dark, heavy. crampy.
I found later MC bleeding much worse at 11wks, though a friend of mine who MC at 3 wks found that bleeding/cramping a lot worse than when she MC at 6wks.
Think is different for everyone.

Hi Tania
I've had one of these. I was one day late for AF (or so I thought) when I started bleeding very, very heavily. I soaked through everything in the first few days, in that time I also passed a clot a bit bigger than a golf ball. When I saw that, I had my suspicions strongly aroused. (I hadn't done a test, it was a surprise pg.) A couple of days after that I had the "baby blues" and recognised that from my earlier two babies. That confirmed it for me.
The bleeding was very heavy, very crampy, very clotty. Bowel movements were also painful at times. I bled for two weeks instead of the usual one for AF.
My next AF came 7 weeks after the start of my m/c. I conceived the cycle after that but my dates ended up being out so I think my cycle was still a couple of weeks behind at that point.
