I concieved end of last year whilst on the pill (a couple had been missed). My hubby and i were happy and I gave up sport as I do endurance Triathlons and was advised to cut back training. I m/c at 10 wks, started having problems at 8 wks but midwife kept telling me it was in my head. After m/c midwife said to wait a couple of cycles and everything would return to normal. 6wks after m/c I had medical proceedure - went into hospital and given a pill to bring on bleeding which would (suppose) to clear everything out - this didn't work! After 4 months I was still showing +ve blood and urine tests - slowly decreasing hcg. Doctor/midwife kept saying that my body would just take time to return to normal. Eventually I took myself to a specialist who scanned me and said it could be possible molar pregnancy. I had a d&c and laproscopy which showed retained pregnancy tissue. (luckily no molar).   I concieved again straight away and m/c at 5 wks. Didn't know I was pregnant till m/c. Still doing very small amounts of training. I have now had 2 periods since last m/c, both around the 31 days. My husband and I are desperate to concieve. I do long distance triathlons competitively and have stopped this over the past few months to focus on conception - however no luck. I am now starting to train again and wondering if this is recommended.   Ihave been trying to get answers but hear very contradictory things. I also am not keen to go through another m/c, worried I wont concieve, try during day 11-16 of cycle etc etc. Any tips on concieving and also avoiding m/c? I hear you can check progesteron levels, take low dose panadol etc etc. Is sport a problem - endurance non contact? I do have a high level of caffine? Is this an issue? I have tried to get as much info as I can, however keep getting told to relax, stop thinking about it etc etc - generally from people who have never had a m/c! I have days where I cope fine and other days where I just cry and cry. I know some people struggle for years and my heart really goes out for them.   Also all of my friends are getting baby bumps etc. My first baby was due 08.08.08 and nobody mentioned anything to us - it's like we have never been pregnant. My sister ended up having a baby around this same time and now wherever I go I am surronded by all there baby stuff - jeleous definately!   I have been to a specialist who advised wait 3 months if you havent concieved come back. I rung today for another appointment and have been told there is a 5 week wait. I know 5 wks in a childs life is nothing - but for me it's a long time.   Any advice greatly recommended. Sorry for the long blog - new to this site and have spent hours reading! Thanks for everyone for there messages.
Thanks,

I'm not 100% sure about the sport thing but I would have thought that so long as you are eating a balanced diet and aren't underweight that it should be fine, they say that you can continue most sport during the first trimester as baby is well protected and lots of women continue sports right throughout pregnancy. Paula Radcliffe was still running 5k a day whilst pregnant.
It's horrible that you went through so much with your first m/c most docs are a lot quicker to get you a d&c than what you experienced so that is upsetting that they didn't care for you better. It is good that is wasn't molar though. 2 m/c in a row is horrible but not necessarily an indication of a problem. After my m/c my doc told me that only 40% of babies that implant make it, just most come away before your period so women don't know they were ever pregnant (unless they test mega early).
There isn't really much that you can do to stop a m/c unless there is an underlying medical condition but as far as i'm aware most specialists won't start investigating until you have had 3 m/c. There is a condition where taking low dose aspirin can help but I wouldn't go that route unless medically advised as too much aspirin can cause m/c.
Caffeine can have an affect on fertility so is best for both you and your DH to cut down or cut it out and there was also a recent study that linked caffeine to m/c as well but it was a bit sketchy in my opinion.

and finally after all that rambling some hugs cos I know how horrible it is to m/c

I know nothing about sports and being pregnant but with my last MC they also gave me a pill to help bring on the MC. Thought it had done it but about four days later my bleeding got worse. Went to the hospital and they were going to give me the pill again but the register said that I needed to have the D & C as the longer I left it the higher my chance was of getting an infection.    I'd had enough by then and just wanted to move on. How frustrating for you though but if you haven't been through it before you just don't know!

I'm no doctor but I do wonder if you should keep doing things as you normally do but maybe cut down a bit once you found out you were pregnant. I'm sure drastic changes might hinder your chance of conceiving.

Good luck though, its not easy and there are always so many decisions to be made

Firstly ! Im sorry to hear of your losses.

Im not too sure on the sport thing but are you taking any B vitamins? They help with carrying a healthy pg and growing a healthy baby? Also are you taking any pregnancy multi vitamins like Elevit or something similar?? Most of them have all the vits and minerals you need for conception and pg.

Good luck hun! I hope your next pg is a sticky wee thing

i was really into my training at the gym with my first pregnancy; 1-2 hours a day, 5-6 days a week type thing. I loved it! Had a surprise pregnancy which I found out about at 5 weeks. I cut down a wee bit at the gym, having an extra day off, but was generally told to keep exercising. I had a MC at just under 7 weeks. I've never been back to the gym. I got pregnant straight away again and just didn't wanna risk it. It wasn't just the gym- I cut out ALL caffeine (which is hard- that stuff is EVERYWHERE!), cut out all vitamins, stayed away from my pet cat...pretty much anything that had ever shown a slight chance in increasing the likelihood of a MC.

Now who knows if it actually helped the baby stick?! All I know is it made me feel like I was doing everything I possibly could to keep baby. I'm now 38 1/2 weeks and looking forward to a beautiful daughter arriving any day now.

I do miss the gym and dream of going back after baby is born. But its just something I felt I should give up when I became pregnant again. It's about what you feel is right.

Well it turns out what I thought was a period was infact my 3rd consecutive miscarriage...argh!! I have booked in to see my specialist on 25th Sept - cannot get in prior to that. Devestated that its my 3rd in a row......has anyone had 3 in a row - would love to hear from you. The only thing I can think of is that I have a high level of caffine, chocolate, red bull....I am stopping that completely!!!
Thanks for the replies so far.

oh Charlie31 so sorry you are going through this It so sucks that 3 consecutives is what it seems to take for the med people to seriously investigate.

I've 'only' had 2 consecutive (tho probably a really early one years ago too) and from what I've been told/read it's usually nothing that the mother is doing to cause it.

So don't feel guilty about lifestyle, etc! When I think of the lifestyles of some people I know who have no trouble having babies, you can do some seriously extreme things with bodies and still have babies to term! Not ideal obviously but goes to show how sticky pregnancies can be.

I think they'll look at things like genetics, blood clotting factors etc. tho I haven't gone through the whole investigation so I'm not exactly sure what they check for.

But don't feel guilty about chocolate or red bull! NOT your fault!
