Charlotte is CONSTANTLY asking for food. Shes always been a good eater and is a healthy weight but from the moment she gets up she whines non-stop for food. She eats a good size breakfast (usually a couple of pieces of toast/crumptets, a glass of milk, an apple and some grapes or blueberries) then the moment she finishes that shes asking for more. All I get all day is "I'm hungreyyyyyyyyy", "I want some fooooooood" and eventually she pops into the kitchen and just starts helping herself. She snacks all morning, then eats a full lunch and still asks for more. We get the same thing all afternoon once she gets up from her nap and even after dinner.

I've tried having set meal times, breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea etc- but that just increases the whinging and its driving me insane. Shes been wormed so its not that. She does it on days when we're really busy and doing lots of fun things so I don't think its boredom. Shes an active little thing and is slim so is obviously burning all of it off- I just don't know what to do to stop the constant whining! Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop the nagging?! It is wearing very very thin at the moment

For example- it is now 1 in the afternoon and so far she has eaten:

2 crumpets with golden syrup
1 glass off milk with breakfast
1 whole apple
approx 20 green grapes
approx 15 blueberries
a large piece of yellow melon
1 carrot
1/3 of a baguette with butter and marmite
a huge chunk of brie
3 cherry tomatos
a Jam sandwich
2 cereal and berry fruit bars
1 cereal and apple fruit bar

and shes just finished a piece of biscuit slice and has asked for something else....

I know this sounds strange at her age, but do you think it could be a growth spurt? As Ella was doing something similar a few weeks back.. I couldn't believe the amount of food she consumed over a few days. She has gone back to the amount she usually eats now.

maybe its because the fruit isnt fulling her up. maybe you need to give her some more carbs and low GI food so she feels full for longer...and what about water? i did read somewhere once (but cant remember where) that sometimes kids confuse thirst with hunger.

i hread that aswell happens with us adults as well maybe she needs more filling food eg pasata,bread,eggs ect hope that helps

I have this. No matter how much Andrew eats he always says he's hungry. Now when he says that I give him his water bottle and that has stopped it a little.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Does she need bigger meals or is she filling up at every sitting? I would have been inclined to offer some toast at breakfast time as well as the crumpets, and perhaps two sandwiches at lunchtime. More filling stuff like that. A lot of the foods she's eating are snack foods and it will do her a lot better to fill up on more wholesome foods at meal times. If she's really hungry, try a bowl of cereal for morning tea etc. Make sure she is full before she leaves the table and insist on her waiting until the next meal.

Hannah doesn't usually complain that she's hungry but when she does and it's close to a meal time (within 40 minutes or so) I say to her, it's a good thing that your tummy is getting hungry for dinner lol

Its hard with her allergies- she has a wheat intolerance so we try to keep bread etc to a minimum. She has toast every other morning I just put crumpets as thats what she had yesterday. She is allergic to eggs and peanuts which cuts out alot of baked foods.

She drinks tonnes of water too- I don't let her have anything other than water and she empties her 600ml water bottle 2-3 times a day. She always has access to it as it sits on the table and I have another in my bag that she can grab out at any time.

I've been trying to give her fruit as I'm worried shes just eating out of habit and not because shes actually hungry- plus I wanted to try and 'save' her appetite for meals. For yesterday she sat and ate the
1/3 of a baguette with butter and marmite
a huge chunk of brie
3 cherry tomatos
a Jam sandwich
2 cereal and berry fruit bars in one sitting for lunch. To me that is a hell of alot of food for someone who is 15kgs to sit and eat in one sitting. Plus it was only 5 minutes before she was asking for more food.

Thanks for the suggetions though guys. I might try going to the health food shop and seeing if I can find some higher GI wheat free snacks for her.

Perhaps a multivitamin may help.

Have had Ethan on one for over a year. He is a lot more balanced with his moods, and does the "mummy, I'm DYYYYYIIIIIIINNNG, my tummy hungry" a lot less.

I also give him a booster vitamin (ecchinacea and vit c) coming up to and during winter, which has helped with less illness..

Maya is the same. She eats constantly and yet is like a weed. The other day she said "Mama, when my puku is full the food goes to my legs". Yeah right - the kid has hollow legs!

I give her 3 meals plus morning and afternoon tea and any other time she says she's hungry she has to have fruit. Which means she eats 4-6 pieces of fruit a day but I figure that can't be a bad thing? And I make sure she has plenty of carbs and protein in her meals and morning/afternoon tea. She doesn't eat a lot of protein tho a she doesn't like cheese, yoghurt etc.

Is she celiac (sp?) My sister can't have gluten (not sure if it is the same thing)
There is a range of baking products over here called "Simple" its Gluten/Wheat free and they have muffin powders (add water etc depending on allergy type), bread mixes etc etc (oh and Pasta)
Just a thought to see if they have something over there or if you like I can find a number / email address and you can ask if they export over there or know of other companies that do the same sort of range. Might help fill her up.
