Topic: Survey about AF Posted: 03 September 2007 at 6:07pm |
Ladies, I know this is kind of weird, but I thought I'd ask here. Since I came off the pill, my AFs have been a bit strange. I don't know if it is because of the cysts I seem to be so good at making, or if it's normal for me and I just didn't know cos I was on the pill so long.
Anyway, I was just wondering how long everyone's AF is (from when it lightly starts to lightly finishes)?
Sorry to ask random questions.

Hi Laurie. Af for me usually comes anytime between 25 and 28 days.
And I alway says AF lasts for 8 days, but I only have about 3 days of heavy bleeding, then after that it gets very light, then the last 1 or 2 days is brown/old blood sorry TMI.
So when I say 8 days, I mean from the first day it starts (its always heavy straight away) until the last day I feel "clean" and its completely gone.

Mine's 5 days start to finish - it starts heavy too and is heavy for the first 3 days, then reduces quickly and goes away. Pre-baby, it used to be about the same although I've only had af once post Gina.
ETA: my cycle is between 28-31 days normally (used to be)

I'm about the same as Mel.. Usually at least 8 days, heavy for first 3 (as in, i try to schedule my days off for those days and i don't tend to go anywhere cos of pain and inconvenience) next 2 are still fairly badish then tapers off from there.
Have never been on pill or any other contraception, tends to be the same for all of us in our family, getting worse with each child as well, however my 2 older sisters who have been on the pill for years before their kids, then on again after their kids, they reverted to the 2 day very light AF and think it's wonderful. I guess it's a toss-up in our family cos we are fairly higher risk for using the pill. I choose not to take that risk and just put up with the annoyance.

Gosh don't I feel luck then - 5 days max and only heavy about day 1-2 and thats it. and when i mean heavy i mean I only use reg or mini's - never had to use super ever.
With the pill, I only get bleeding every second break - and it barely lasts more than 2-3 days - before I'm back on normal pils.

Before m/c it was 4 days - first two days were heavy and then last 2 very light. That was after coming off Depo in November 06. After m/c in June, first AF was 11 days long - started light, and got heavier, than last day was light. I have just started my second AF after m/c and so far it's been 2 days of heavy bleeding and a massive amount of pain. I also have recurring cysts and endo.

Thanks for your answers ladies. It's true how different we are. I am just concerned as I used to have what I considered a "normal" AF.... about 7 days long, heavy fo the first three or four and then tapering off. Now though, it is only 5 days, and only medium flow for one, the rest of the time it is scrappy and annoying.
I don't know if it is just me after the pill, cos of my miscarriage or because my body is still making the cysts.
I sometimes wish I had a crystal ball....

Between 8 and 12 days. Just light for the first 2days and the last 2days and very heavy for the rest. I get anemic(sp?) during AF so I take iron to counteract it.

Crikey I'm feeling a bit lucky after reading about how long some of you poor ladies periods go for!
My cycle is usually 28 days (unless stressed out as in this month!), but AF only hangs around a max of about 4 days from start to finish. The third day is pretty light and by the 4th day it's usually tapered off with just very very light spotting. Never anything very heavy either for the first 2 days. It used to be heavier many years ago (in my late teens/ealry 20's), but after having a D&C at about 26, they've been light ever since.
