I'm a bit of a lurker on here (not TTC yet, so don't have a lot to say... although I wish bumblefoot would report back, lol). Anyway, I've noticed a lot of you talking about AF, and it occurred to me that the AF I get isn't anything like that.
Before I went on the pill, I had a 35 day cycle, and AF was probably about right for "regular" tampons etc and lasted about 5 days. I've been on the pill now for 7 years, and AF has got progressively lighter, to the point that I could get away with using "barely there" panty liners for the 3 days that its here. I never seem to do more than dampen a tampon, and I never bleed at night, in fact hardly ever bleed outside of about 8am - 3pm (weird?). Seriously, 6 barely there liners would be enough for all of AF! But (TMI sorry), its still a wee bit clotty, like its always been.
Anyway, I was wondering whether that sounds within the realms of 'normal', and if not, might it be an indicator of something not being quite right in there?
I did bring it up with my doctor about 2 years ago, and she gave me a pregnancy test and didn't say much else. It didn't cross my mind to query re fertility, cos kids were a waaaay down the track thing at that stage.
So after all that ramble, I'd just be keen to hear whether anyone else has experienced AF like these, and whether it impacted on their fertility. Thanks!

I was on the implant for 5 years - I always had light AF's before this (I think the fact that I exercise a fair amount had something to do with it) but while on the implant had infrequent AF's or very light ones, 2-3 days and I too never bled at night. After having my implant removed, about 3 weeks later I had my first 'natural' AF which lasted all of 1 day so I really thought that my body hadn't gotten back on track yet. Four weeks later I was pregnant! So for me it obviously wasn't a problem with my fertility! I think as long as you're not really underweight, and reasonably healthy, the fact that your AF is light shouldn't be a problem?

Good luck (and I wish Bumblefoot would report back too!!)

Its quite normal for your period to be become lighter or even disappear entirely when on the pill.
When I came off the pill my periods stayed lighter for the whole 6 months that we were TTC, hope that helps, but if you are really concerned see your doc again.

Mine have become like that as well and I never get proper red blood anymore and I was starting to get a bit worried as well as it has been like that for the last three months, I need to get a new prescription so am wondering whether maybe I should change to a different pill, will see what the doc says anyways.

I don't have any personal experience with this, but I've heard that the longer you're on the pill (or injection), the higher chances you have of sterility.... so that would make me a bit nervous. When is your next renewal date?

I was on it 10 yrs, I've heard of things taking a while to start working again, which is probably why it took us so long to get pregnant, but I haven't heard of it making you sterile.

I have always had very light short periods too quite similar to what you are saying although every 5 or 6 months I get a slightly heavier one. Last December I got a dozen packets of liners and a dozen twin packs of tampons. I've only used one of each so far. My doc didn't think that it was anything to be concerned about but did say to go back and see him if TTC was taking too long and I was becoming concerned.
