Topic: Getting pregnant 2nd time around Posted: 01 July 2009 at 12:21pm |
Hi all,
I have a 4 month old but am hoping to start trying for no.2 sooner rather than later (doesn't feel like time is on my side as no.1 took long enough!)
I'm breastfeeding so still no sign of my cycle returning. Does anyone have any tips or experience of when your cycle comes back - how long to get pregnant again???!!
Thanks

I think it varies. My AF didn't return until about a mth before I stopped bfing Jack (he was about 11mths at that stage) and I was only bfing twice a day and even then he wasn't taking much.
My Mum said that she had to stop bfing me so that she could get pg with my brother. It was similar for a friend of mine.
You may be able to get pg while you still bf or you may have to stop bfing.

Af didn't return for me until DS was down to 1 feed a day so when he was 11 months. As far as getting pregnant again, ask me again in a few months - we are currently ttc'ing number 2
When AF did return it was regular immediately and has been regular since.
HTH and welcome to OhBaby!

I got AF back 16 weeks post-birth and was still fully breastfeeding, it was right when DD started to sleep through the night for 10 - 12 hours - apparently less night feeding is a trigger for some women. I figured it was a fair trade off!
We didn't start TTC #2 until DD turned 1,and it took 3 cycles which was one cycle less than it took for #1. I'm in my early 30s.

I stopped BFing after 6 weeks but didn't get AF back til Jake was 1. Still managed to get preg and miscarry so I guess its just different strokes for different folks.
You might want to give it abit more time though. If you happened to get preg straight away you wouldn't be able to give baby #2 all the nutrients they need. It can make for teeth problems and stuff.
Good luck though hun and welcome to OB

I was b/f Ella and didn't get AF back until she was 11 months. We are starting ttc#2 this month and my doc recommended weaning her (just before she turned 2) to give me a better chance of getting pregnant. It is definitely possible to get pregnant while b/f (lots of ladies on here are proof of that), but I was told it could take a bit longer than if you weren't b/f.
good luck

I found out I was pregnant with #2 when Lily was only 4 months old - 2or 3 AF before conceiving though 1st 6 weeks after birth, then another 6 weeks, then 4 weeks I think- and I was exclusively breastfeeding! It was our first month of not using contraception after Lily was born and we were kind of trying (if it happened, it happened and it would be great - which is was great after having to wait over 9 months to conceive Lily) There will be a 13 month age difference between my bubbas!
I would say, although breastfeeding is meant to make your body stop producing eggs, you can still get pregnant (me, for example!)
So if you're keen to get pregnant again - go for it!!!
(Just be aware, the first trimester is pretty tricky when you're still breastfeeding your first and you're so tired/sick) Good luck!

I fully breast feed my boy and got AF pretty much straight away. You must definitely can get pregnant while breastfeeding..and not too long after baby is born as well. My mum is testament to that (she had 4 babies in 4 years).....but also like me she was able to halt getting pregnant naturally....I haven't been on contraception since having Kahtrell and have managed fine, since I'm not wanting to TTC at the mo....have had a couple oopsies!. So yea I think it definitely varies from couple to couple. There's no set rules.

I got pregnant when DD was 6 months without AF returning.
I too am sure I have just ovulated but no AF - so strange!
