You often don't ovulate when fully breastfeeding. Although some woman ov before the first af many have af and then ov... so the first af can be a kinda warning that you're fertility is returning. Once baby is sleeping through the night (i.e. not night feeding) and eating solids it is more likely that your fertility will return. In saying that some woman get it back straight away... It took me stopping feeding completely before I got af back.
Guess you just watch for increases in ewcm, libido, ov pain.... but it's impossible to predict when it will happen unfortunately
If you are fully breastfeedin and your baby is under 6 months and not having any other supplement feeding the chances of ovulating during this time is less than 2%.
I have just finished (well mostly finished) breastfeeding my 17 month old son and still haven't had a period. And i was only feeding once per day before that. I am now taking Vitex, so hopefully should ovulate soon (fingers crossed).
The best way to predict if you are ovulating when breastfeeding is to look at your CM. But it is not a guarantee. Before your body ovulates, it goes through a stage where it sort of practices and goes through the motions but doesn't quite do it.
If your baby is sleeping through the night or you are getting more than 5 hours sleep in a row before waking in the morning you could chart your temperature too.
Hey I weaned my DD at 13months and didnt get Af the whole time i was bfeeding, It did return 3 weeks after she was fully off. But from when she was around 9 months I thought I was oving because I had lots of cm and sharp pains on right hand side, We werent using contraception and didnt fall preg so im guessing that i wasnt oving after all.
