Iv been on loxamine antidepressants since about feb 09 and have talked to the doc about weaning me off by the end of the year as i think im ready too and we wanted to TTC but as of Sept we have started actively trying.

Im a little worried that the hormones will throw me so bad that I might need the meds again, the doc said some woman stay on them through pregnancy and there hasnt been any reall decent studies showing that they harm the baby in anyway but Im not sure id want to take that chance.

I am taking them mostly for anxiety and mild depression.

Anyone out there who was on them and got preg or are on them while preg?

i was on citalopram which is a different drug but this is what i do know, hope it helps :)

i would stay on them at least as long as you are TTC just for the fact that it can be quite emotional for some ppl. the one thing i would worry about as loxamine can quite often have a withdrawel effect so if you did get pg and wanted to stop id do it gradually. if you did stop and got to strung out you can always slowly reintroduce them again. i was on meds before i got pg and decided to stop them once i got UTD. i was fine through my pg and am still not taking them and feel great even though i have a job, uni and a 4 month old. because loxamine is an SSRI it would have no effect on hormones and the effects of them as it is targeted toward seratonin so if your worried about mood swings they probably wouldnt help. lol. otherwise i think all our DH's would force them down our throat. hehe. dont know if this helps.

It does, thanks mon! good to know im not the only one as Iv had a few comments saying that "how can I cope with the anxiety, and stress etc involved with pregnancy and a baby if i already need those drugs?"

It really hurts my feelings because I know that this isnt my fault its just something i have to work through. i was going to wean myself off themonce im confirmed UTD too. I dont think I need them now but I think ill take your advice and keep taking them while TTC.

you could (with doctors approval) cut them down to half dose and see how you go?

I've been on Citilopram since March of last year, and visited my dr in December to discuss being pregnant while taking them as I had found out I was UTD. I'm still taking them, but have had good discussions with my GP about them, and when we visited yesterday for Daniel's 6 wk jabs he also asked me how things were going

Nic, the people I know on anti-dep went all calm and serene when they had their babies and some of the really together people I know lost it and got post natal depression! If you're used to being out of control I think sometimes (but not always) that can help when you have a baby. MAybe you'll be one of them? :)
