We are planning on having another baby soon , but i'm wanting so advice on what path i should go down...... My daughter was born 12 weeks early due to extreme growth restriction , she stopped growing at 23 weeks and me developing the first signs of pre eclampsia.... I have never spoken to a specialist and my midwife didn't have alot of answers about why this happened. If i was to get pregnant again i would have a different midwife but wondered if i should go under a private specialist or would a midwife organise one for me.... Should i be anixous about this happening again..???
I would love to hear anyone stories or ideas ........

I'm not 100% sure because I havnt been through anything like that, but because of your 1st pregnancy I think you would automatically be under the high risk team at the hospital?? correct me if i'm wrong anyone

good luck with your TTC journey and your pregnancy I hope it will be smoother sailing next time!

Do you have a GP? I would have a chat to them about at least having an initial appt maybe with the high risk team at the hospital. A good GP might even give them a call to find out what they suggest for you. Then at least you've had a discussion before you start trying - it would be nice to know that you've covered all bases before you start in some ways.

I also had my DD early - but there were no reasons found why. We decided to start trying last year for #2 and I did make an appointment to see a private ob/gyn to draw up an action plan and so I had an idea of what would happen once I got pg. I have a blood clotting disorder though and was wondering if I would need to be on daily injections to thin my blood. Since then though, its been the conceiving (and keeping) that I'm having trouble with so have been to see him a few more times! But when I do get pg again, my MW or GP will refer me to the high risk clinic at the hospital and I will have shared care with them and my mw. HTH and good luck!

Hi Kate, I have no idea where you are, but if in AK, then I would be looking at using the hospital m/w & you will have access to specialists, scans & tests.

With your history you would probably be high risk so the HR team would look after you well.

I had my first with hospital m/w (I worked there) then had my other 2 with high risk, best care ever when pg & during delivery.

I would not worry about it too much now, wait till you are pg then book in with a m/w. I would either ring the hospital & talk to the m/w coordinator or get your dr to refer you to them.

Jake was IUGR stopped growing as some point between 24 weeks and 34 weeks but thankfully started again. At 24 weeks he was in the 50th percantile on all graphs and by 34 weeks he was under the 3rd

We were extrememly lucky that for whatever reason the little monkey started growing again and by 38 weeks was about the 15 percantile and was no longer IUGR.

That said, i was induced anyways as I had developed PE.

My specialist said that this was the likely cause of Jakes growth problem. Those who have had PE in a previous pregnancy have a 15% chance of getting it again.

Given your baby was born pre term though I would think you will be referred to high risk team and they will decide if you need to stay under them.

I know for me I will only be referred if I start showing signs of PE or bubbas growth is not satisfactory.

You may find they just want you to have a few extra scans to watch how things are going.

As Jazzy said, I wouldnt worry to much now and find yourself a good midwife and she will organise referral to high risk.... There is a high risk thread in the pregnancy section if you want to have a nosey.. a few pre termers in there

Good luck!
