Ok, I am still researching but I am learning new things and getting more confused as I go along. Soon it will all come together....I hope.

What have people used on newborns? I really dont want to start on disposables. I was planning on using pockets (have fallen in love with swaddlebees) but have just been reading up on prefolds and covers and that sounds like a possibility for the first few weeks then moving on to pockets.

What say you all????

When we have number 2 I'll definetly be using both fuzzis but also prefolds and covers. I don't find the aborbancy of prefolds as good as pockets but because you tend change nappies so much in those first few weeks they are perfect and also a cheaper option than using solely pockets. Just my thoughts anyway.

I did flats and pins with covers during the day and sposies at night till my girls grew into their medium pockets. I used the medium pockets (HH and Fuzzis) as covers until they fitted them well enough to use as pockets too.

i think pockets can sometimes be hard on little babies until their legs grow enough chubba bits to not have the nappy gaping. prefolds and covers sound like a good idea to me. or you could look at hiring a newborn kit, that will have a variety of different types to use. normally hire them for 8 weeks. i found mine fantastic, i didnt want to give it back!

I used Fuzzis with Krystiana but she couldn't fit the small size until she was 9lbs (I think a month old) - didn't have enough leg chub! Now she has so much she can't fit a small already lol. I used the disposables from my baby shower for the first few weeks, only bought 2 packs and one is still unopened. Oh and I had Paws' leftover nappies too

I used prefolds & covers from when Matt was about 6 weeks. They were great for containing everything. It was just that extra layer to keep things in that pocket nappies don't have. If you do go with prefolds & covers, make sure you get a snappi. It holds the prefold snug around the baby & helps prevent leaks.

I used small Fuzzis from the start, but then Caitlin was 9lb 7.5oz and had PLENTY of thigh to fill the legs of the nappy

We have been using prefolds and wraps on Caleb since about day 4 (when he finished tar poo). they have been working really well for us and I am pretty sure that we have only had one leak near the start when DH didnt do the wrap up tight enough and it leaked out the leg hole.

DH has found them really easy to use, even prefers them over the sposies.

i used sposies on charli until she was sleeping through...8wks....naughty mummy!
then i used prefolds and covers until she was 3-4mths and could fit into a pocket, which i think was swaddlebee and peapod

I think that is how I might go. Snazzipants has what looks like a great deal on prefolds "special delivery pack" which is all your prefolds, some covers etc for $110. I might also get the odd pocket to experiment with. I think I want swaddlebees so that will give me the chance to see how they really fit.

All I know is I would really really like to try and have a baby who has never seen a sposie......possibly overly unrealistic but it must be possible....our bums where in cloth from day1

Only thing I'd be concerned about is how much little bubs can change in the first couple of months and what might seem like a perfect fit at first may not be 3 months down the track. But in saying that, cloth nappies seem to have good resale.

Have you thought about what you'll do at the hospital? Most (all?) hospitals provide sposies now so you'd have to take your own MCNs and then have them washed, what happens if you choose to stay there 4 days? Will DH happily wash and dry them for you?

I wanted our bubs to be in cloth from day one, but then realised it was unrealistic when in the hospital. It could be done but it is much easier to use the provided sposies for the first few days especially with the lovely meconium (tar poo )

But if you choose to go cloth at the hospital then good on you and the best of luck. I am still waiting on the pockets I ordered for Caleb although he is probably still to small for them yet as they seem to be from 3.5-4 kg. Hopefully by the time they get here he might be closer to fitting them and not have such scrawny chicken legs

Of course he will....with pleasure....oh and mum will be here too.....All my slaves, all in a row.

I guess, like the birth plan concept I can have a nappy plan and be prepared to go with the flow and change it if needed

I realise they will fill out, he is just so long and skinny at the moment. Going to be a tall boy I think, especially with his huge feet.

I'd go for it! Next time I want to use cloth in the hospital and there are plenty of girls who do. I'd just use nappy liners for the meconium and you'll be fine.

I have just ordered the "special delivery" pack from snazipants so here come my prefolds and wraps. Then I thought I'd get some pockets to try and by the time bubs is a little bigger and we know more about what its bottom will and wont do we can settle into to some nice pockets!

I'm so excited!!!!! Hopefully I will be this excited with pooey naps too
