After I calculated yesterday how much the exclusive use of Huggies nappies has cost us so far, I have decided to venture into the world of cloth nappies.

Now you probably thinking - not another cloth virgin!

I have been over the topics in the forum and it seems almost everyone buys more than one brand of nappies. I guess that means no one brand is the best?

For the sake of trying different ones to find out which one I like, I'm planning on buying a few different ones:
- Fuzzibunz - they seem quite popular
- Berry Plush - an AIO nappy
- Bamboo - natural fibre that's anti-bacterial too
- Haute Pockets - one size nappy
- Baby Harmony - possibly as they seem to have a 'try before you buy' money back offer

So what do you ladies think? Would this selection give me a good idea of how cloth nappies work? At this stage I'm not sure whether I'll use them during the day only or at night too as the whole inserts thing really confuses me. I'm after a nappy that performs really well (as close to spossies as poss), lasts me for more than once child so I can save money and is quite quick to dry. Is there another nappy anyone thinks I should deff try?

ETA: also what do you find works better - velcro fastenings or snaps? Both as a nappy on the bubs and in the wash?

Why don't you look into getting a hirekit? I have one at the moment, and it has a range of different types of pocket nappies plus fitteds, prefolds and covers, an all-in-one, and cloth wipes. Its a good way to get a feel for the different types of MCN out there without the hassle of collecting a whole range and then having to get rid of those that may not suit you.

The Nappy Network has hirekits. Alternatively, see if there is a nappicino happening in your area you could go along to. A nappicino is a coffee morning of cloth-nappy using mums, and they are more than happy to discuss what brands they use and why and show off their nappies! There is a nappicino thread on The Nappy Network's forums.

Edited for spelling

i second the hire kit idea.
if you don't want to go there, then what you are thinking of trying is a great range.
i see that peapods have brought out a bamboo pocket nappy. there's a lady selling them on TM and i've found peapods to be great nappies for less. the bamboo ones are $24.95 with insert.
the berry plush aio's are a little costly....debsmith on Tm sells great aio's.
another alternative to fuzzi bunz which i don't really like that much is joel-eze pockets for $22 instead of $28 for fuzzi's (sorry to the agents on here! )

depending on the age of the child wearing them, i prefer snap nappies. simply because as they get older they can undo velcro ones.

i hope that helps some and yay for going cloth

You don't like Fuzzis?!?!? Just kidding!

I would definitely recommend a hire kit so that you can try all types before you buy.

Btw, Fuzzis also do a 30 day money back guarantee trial nappy

I'd second the hire kit idea. It's an excellent way to try before you buy.

And for all you people who aren't yet in on the Fuzzi love don't forget we have that special just for you guys!!

Woo hoo - go for it Pauline, you will save so much money! A hire kit or nappiccino is a great idea to see them first. Also, I prefer snaps - I find it hard to get velcro naps to fit properly on my chubby thighed girl, plus she can get them undone now! Let us now what you get
