Hannah (3 1/2) has been coming up with the sore tummy story off and on for a while. She seems to get a sore tummy when she is anxious and tired as well as unwell. But when she just says to me "mum I have a sore tummy" what am I supposed to do? I usually check back that she's eaten recently and then offer her a drink of water and, if that fails to satisfy, a sleep.

I know that I get a bit funny-tummy ish when it gets too late, and there's no way I want to eat anything past that point. Is this the same kind of funny tummy? Is it just fussing or attention-seeking? Is this something that needs checking with a Doctor? I need some strategies of what to do with it cause I can never seem to pinpoint a problem!

Paris is doing the same thing too and either over over eating or just being silly and not wanting to drink much.. so i either make sure she's been toilet lately cos that can sometimes do it..or get her to have a drink etc. depends on situations, but sometimes it can be a sign of stress too if they have a worry it can manifest itself as a sore tummy. but am thinking of getting some worming tablets just to be sure anyway.. you never know.

Stewed apples?

Good for sore tummies (as in sick tummies) and also shows a bit of a special effort and attention from Mum... kill two birds with one stone?

Good luck!

Otherwise, rescue remedy as a magic cure?

Janine I'm kinda relieved that you said Paris is doing the same. I don't think it's worms, I'm certain I would have seen something by now. (This has been going on for months.)

How much does Paris eat? I'm a bit concerned that Hannah is so peckish. But then maybe it's because Briona eats like there's no tomorrow? Sounds like your Ayja is the same.

Oh btw (is it ok to threadjack one's own thread? ) Bria still regularly sings "Ha'birday Ayja"

lol G&T..

I figured it wouldn't hurt just to be sure,, rules that idea out, however icky it sounds kids play with all kinds of dirt and icky stuff and can pick up some interesting things.

I know paris tends to be a bit of an attention thing too but i usually use it as a way to make her have more water, go to the loo, or take some quiet time out to nap. he he evil mummy!

Paris has just started eating like a horse again, (another reason i am thinking "huh?") but i know she's probably coming up for a growth spurt and we have been having lots of healthy stuff and i got mike to cut out the snacks after daycare.. so it's probably that she's actually hungry at mealtimes.   I am getting a bit miffed with her eating full big dinners and going "i'm still hungry" though. fruit and water is all she gets then.. if she's doing it to get treats, it's just not working. lol.

argh, i dunno, kids are confusing little mites aren't they.

Andrew used to do this and we worked out that it ws because he was hungry. So now we ask him if it is a sore tummy, or a hungry tummy. He usually says its hungry. At that time we are usually getting dinner ready so we let him know dinner is almost ready and the hungry tummy will get full. Or if we are still in the prep stage I give him his water bottle and he is usually happy with that.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

My mum used to worm us every six months regardless

Maya sometimes complains of a sore tum, a visit to the toilet usually follows soon after and she's ok.

As for the attention thing, Maya's trick is to complain about having a wiggly bottom. The first time she complained I took her to the doctor and she had thrush. The second time I wormed her and it seemed to fix the problem. But lately it's been every night at bed time "my bottom is wiggly" and she won't settle for ages. I do wonder if I should take her back to the doctor again but I'm pretty sure it's just a procrastination/attention thing.

Good luck with Hannah!
