it sucks huh!

Mine developed about a week post c section, luckily (or not) I was still in hospital then (due to JJ being in SCBU) so they kept me in while they trialled various antibiotics to try to fix it. The first two they tried didn't seem to work but the 3rd one did the trick. It was sore and really red and horrible looking.

They tried to open up the wound to wick out the infection but that didn't want to work, finally one night I worked out a way to prop me up with pillows in the right places so I could sleep on my stomach (just cos I wanted to, nothing to do with the wound infection!) and the heat and pressure seemed to do something. Sorry, TMI: I woke up at 3am oozing out of the wound all over the sheets etc and buzzed them, they were all excited that it was finally being drawn out, one of the midwives and I spent about half an hour pushing and squeezing it to try to get as much as we could out of it.

A wound nurse that stopped by the next day commented that a poultice would have done the same thing (not that anyone suggested it, a bit too alternative), so maybe that's something to look into? Even just putting a heat pack on it perhaps?

Hope it comes right soon, that's a long time for it to be hanging around

NB there was a girl in my antenatal class who had a similar thing only they eventually decided to take her back into theatre, open her back up and clear it out hope it doesn't end up that way for you!

I had one 3 weeks PP after my eldest that decided to stop weeping and start gushing gunk while in tranist through the bombays on Xmas eve of all freaking days! I had the old hospital maternity pads folded in half lengthways wedged in along the wound to try and keep the area dry, but felt a bit hot and sticky so thought I'd take it off and let some air onto it and I ended up back in hosp where, like Weegee, they pushed and poked and prodded to get the rest out, then sent me for scan to make sure it had drained compltely, then put me on IV antibiotics overnight... they would have kept me in for longer but I begged to be d/c'd cos it was xmas day and we were only in town for a couple of days to see family for xmas, so I promised to take these big capsules they gave me, and had no probs after that. I dont know why I didnt twig to having an infection earlier... I had the hot and cold flushes the night before, and had spent the whole time between leaving hospital and going back in unable to stand up straight, or lie down flat... I just assumed it was a c-sect thing!

I was in hosp for 6 days after having Leah and when she was 9 days was admitted through A&E to the general surgical ward for 24 hrs. Down in A&E they had stuck big long things that looked like giant cotton buds into 3 places along the wound that had reopened.

I had been on AB's since leaving the hosp but it just got worse so overnight in the general ward with a newborn (not fun!) and on intrevenous AB's was all that cleared it.

I'm sorry your having such a crap time with it, I hope it sorts itself out soon.

I'm in tga too so pm me if you need anything, i'm happy to help if I can.
