Hi Iceland as long as you use a good nappy liner they should be ok, but generally the barrier creams will stop the absorbancy of the cloth nappies, so you may need to strip wash the nappies more frequently to make sure there is no residue of the cream on them too

Tui Balm makes a really good natural baby balm - 'bee balm' my 2 sisters used it for all their children with cloth nappies and they loved it I have already got some to use when baby arrives also using cloth.

The main thing to look for in a nappy cream suitable for cloth nappies is that it is zinc free. Two great creams to use with cloth nappies are BaoBaby Bum-Bum Balm and Iolite Nappy Rash Cream. They are both available at www.beautifulbottoms.co.nz
(Yes, I am the owner of this shop, but please don't consider this as me advertising my products. They are brilliant creams which is why I sell them )

I use Botanicas Baby Balm - a honey and beeswax based one that I love. Yeah stay away from Zinc based creams like Sudocreme. I've had no probs with beeswax/honey ones and they work a treat!
