Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has given birth to a baby girl.
The royal princess was delivered at 8.34AM, Saturday 2nd May (UK time), just three hours after the Duchess was admitted to hospital.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their newborn daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. The name is traditional, with royal precedence and is a nod to both families. The fourth in line to the throne, born at 8.34am on Saturday weighing 8lbs 3oz, will be officially known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Kensington Palace said in a statement. Kate and William announced their daughter's name on Twitter in the early hours of the 5th of May (NZ time).
On Saturday 2nd of May, Kensington Palace released a statement on their website informing the public that the new arrival was a girl. A town crier made the announcement outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, where the little princess was born.
At 4PM, 21-month-old Prince George came to visit his tiny sister, carried into the hospital by his dad, Prince William. They stopped on the stairs to acknowledge the adoring crowd, the toddler doing his best with a heart-melting wave.
At 6.12PM, the Duke and Duchess made a quick appearance on the steps of the hospital to show Princess Cambridge to an ecstatic crowd. They then made their way home to Kensington Palace, after being in hospital for less than 12 hours.

The shawl: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's new baby daughter was presented to the world wrapped in a soft woolen shawl, reported Eleanor Steafe. The princess's ivory shawl was from G H Hurt and Son Ltd in Nottingham, which has a long-standing connection with the Royal Family.
A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess said: "Other Members of the Royal Family have been presented with these shawls in the past and Prince George and The Duke of Cambridge had a similar shawls when they were babies."
The baby carrier: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge left the Lindo Wing carrying their new baby daughter in the same baby carrier they used to take Prince George home in.
The Britax Baby Safe carrier was the royal couple's brand of choice back in 2013 when they left hospital for the first time with their son.
The fabulous hair: Yes, Kate looked amazing just hours after giving birth. The naturally beautiful Duchess did receive a little help from her hairdresser, who was seen entering the hospital in the afternoon thus giving onlookers a clue that the Royal family would be leaving the hospital later that day.
In the family:
The statement from Kensington Palace added: "The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news."
The little Princess of Cambridge joins the line of succession behind her grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William and brother Prince George, who was born at the same hospital in July 2013.
The princess is the Queen's fifth great-grandchild.
