I know Porse and Barnardoes typically have minimum rates of around $5 per child per hour, but I'm wondering what rates carers are averaging in the Manawatu (I know Aucklanders sometimes charge up to $11) while still getting children, particularly if you are qualified? Am trying to work out the maximum rate I can set for myself and still have families interested.

As mums, what would you be willing to pay to ensure your child would receive quality care? What is a reasonable rate in your opinion which balances needs of families, and the financial viability for a carer?

Please consider that:
- I'm a qualified and registered ECE teacher
- I have one year's experience teaching in a centre environment
- I have one baby of my own
- I only want to take on one, or maybe two more children so will be an excellent teacher-chid ratio of either 1 to 2, or 1 to 3
- I was getting paid $23 an hour in my teaching position

Thanks mums and carers!
