Topic: bleeding at 13 weeks :o( Posted: 04 July 2009 at 11:15am |
hi there
I am about 13 weeks pg and on friday afternoon I had a wee bit of bleeding which has totally freaked me out! It was quite bright red blood and was there when I wiped. I wore a liner and there was nothing on that I next went to the loo. THere was a bit more blood when I wiped though.
I have never had any bleeding before in both of my last pregnancies so this is scaring me.
Also, I checked my cervix this am and it felt sort of open
Anyone had this happen?
Any advise?
Any ideas on what the blood could be from?
We had a scan on wednesday and saw the baby was fine and with a good heartbeat.
TIA

Oh no, how scary. Have you called your MW? I had a bit of red blood at 15 weeks last pregnancy. It was soo minute, but any red blood that far along isn't good. After having a scan all was good with baby, and showed it may it come from behind the placenta. I hope it's nothing serious.

Oh how scary for you!! I'd be asking your MW or Dr for another scan just to be sure! I had spotting from 4 - 8 weeks which is bad enough!
Have you had Special cuddles lately??
Let us know how you go.

I had a huge bleed at 12 weeks and continued bleeding quite heavily till 15 weeks then off and on till 18 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy. I had a subcorionic hamatoma in the womb right beside my sons placenta. It was a very scary time but it all turned out good he is now nearly 6yo.
Hope u r doing alright and have been in contact with ur LMC.

I had something identical, but at 7 weeks and 9 weeks. Bright red bood but only a small amount, not enough to show on underwear, only when I wiped.
I had a couple of scans and they said it was probably from a small bleed in the uterine wall - not from the baby. Everything was fine at my 13 weeks scan - so if you've just had a scan and baby was fine then it's highly unlikely the bleeding is from the baby.

oh JD how worrying for you.
I had bright red blood at approx 8 weeks and 11 weeks and thought the worse but has scan few days ago and baby was fine.
Have you had constiptation or sex? Mine happened when i strained to go to the toilet - although came from the front (not bum) and midwife said it could be the cervix and that there is extra blood going to it and so might of let some out with the pushing.
Have you rung your midwife? i would to let her know and she can put your mind to rest (hopefully) Although it does happen miscarrages at 13 weeks is rare.

I talked to my mw yesterday and then called again this morning to let her know there has been no bleeding since last night (small amount when i wiped). I am going to see her tomorrow to get a anti-d inj seen as Im O-
Im trying not to worry, but it is scary to see blood when you know youre not supposed to see it :o(
Ill talk to the mw tomorrow about whether she recons another scan would be in order.
Hadn't had sex or constipation leading up to the bleeding....she asked me that already :-)
Thanks for your replys

Hi JD. Didn't want to read and run. I had lots of bleeding with my pregnancy with Emily - up until 16 weeks. And not just when I wiped either. I'd definitely look at getting another scan. They reckoned my bleeds were coming from my cervix, not the pregnancy. My fingers are crossed for you that all is okay.

I had bleeding with all my pg's. I would ask for a scan, just to put your mind at rest, once you see the heart beat & your little bubba you will fell better.
Best wishers

Yep, another bleeder here, with lil miss I spotted brown for 10 days between 12-14 weeks, and then all of a sudden started gushing bright red blood, enough that my BP dropped and I had to be admitted to hospital. I had a scan the following day and they said I had a small subchorionic (placental) hemorrhage and it shouldn't affect the pregnancy, and sure enough, it didn't.

Ann - the current protocol for Anti D in NZ is that it's not necessary before 13 weeks so that may be why your midwife didn't mention it. Some do give it just as a precaution tho.

I had some spotting at 13 weeks too.
I freaked out because I didn't have any bleeding with my first pregnancy and the last thing you want to see down there is blood!
I stupidly googled it and read alsorts about how if it's red or pink blood then it's not good, and brown blood is ok. My spotting was pinkish. Googling it was silly though as there are plenty of people who have bleeds during pregnancy and everything is fine in there.
I only had a little bit of blood and it wasn't accompanied by cramps and stopped almost as soon as it began but it was still really scary.
My stepmum who is a nurse told me to relax, rest and wear some loose clothing, and lie down as much as possible.
I'm o- as well, but my partner is too, so no need for anti-d here. My ex partner was a+ but Sam was a- so I didn't need one after I had him either.
