Topic: Cars that fit 3 carseats? Posted: 04 April 2010 at 7:46am |
Is there such a thing that isn't a van or people mover?
At the moment I drive a Honda Inspire and have both my older children in harnessed boosters and there is not a lot of room left between those to fit a capsule/baby seat.
We've got a bit of time for shopping around yet, I'm just wondering if any of you with 3 or more children have any info or advice you could share, please

Our car fits 3 car seats across the back, that's one of the reasons I got it, we've got a holden commodore calais - it has three proper seat belts across the back seat. It wasn't cheap though, but its our family care and will be what we have for the next 5-10 years.
Subaru wagons have similar room too.

Emiloly in the Sept thread has a Mazda Atenza SW - she loves it, and has 3 carseats in the back (the twins and her 4 yr old). We are getting a people mover instead so that we can take more people with us.

we opted for a people mover to - and I love it!!!! When it comes down to it, Ivy is 5 and at school, we've already picked up other kids to drop home when someone else has needed a hand, and its nice to be able to do that. Having the extra couple of seats makes a big difference and I really really love the car... didn't expect to! We got a Honda Odyssey. I wouldn't go back to our sedan, it feels weird driving it now.

we have a Nissan Bassara which is not quite as big as a people mover but bigger than a station wagon - seats 8 when back back seats are in place. We were looking at a Nissan Liberty initially - its about the size of a station wagon but has 2 'pop up' seats in the boot. but we decided to go a little so we could have good boot space with all the seats out.
We are only pregnant with number one but thought we'd go there while we had the double income to pay for it!!! And Kia ora to wanting to have the kids friends play at our place!

Heh, as Kate said, I have a Mazda Atenza and I DO love it. one of the reasons I am having NO MORE BABIES! However if I did end up 'up the duff' again sometime in the future I would get a Toyota Ipsum. The newer model. That is a great car. It has 7 seats but it's not a van - the back seats go up and down so you can use it as just a station wagon.
This is the newer one(2004+??), I took one for a test drive and liked it. It has some cool features. Reverse Camera, parking sensors etc
My Mum drives one like this which isn't quite as nice but it's heaps cheaper and still a great car.

I too have a Nissan Bassara like nannyabby. Must be the fact that we are both nannies aye! FUNNY!
Although my Bassara is only 7 seats. I could have had a 8 seater one but decided I liked the fact that I could fold down one of the "Middle" row seats which makes accessing children easier when it comes to putting children into carseats.
My seating configuration from front to back goes 2, 2, 3. Would have been better if it went 2,3,2 thou because if you fold up one of the "Back" seats (The back seating row splits) you loose 2 seating places.

After a lot of fussing around & I wanted a car that fitted 3 across the back. I went to all car yards with a tape measure!
We got a Ford Falcon. We had a camry as well. Both have massive boots & the falcon has a even bigger boot than a camry
I really liked the Toyota Avensis except it didn't have enough grunt for me & I keep redlining it when accelerating! so we stayed with a 6 cylinder car.

You guys are awesome, thanks so much!
Love the last pic Emiloly
My brother seems to think we'll get 3 across the back in the Inspire. It is quite wide but I am doubtful.
Will have to see if I can borrow a capsule and have a play.

Ethan has a new car seat and it's quite narrow compared to the foam type one he use to be in. But we fitted both the car capsules in (couldn't get the bases in too though) + Ethan's car seat. Not sure how wide the Inspire is but it's worth trying.
