Dinner time

Ever since Daniel had a tummy bug dinner has become very irritating.

He will happily sit at the table with me but he won't eat hardly anything. If chicken nuggets or carrots are there he will eat all those. Anything else and he just ignores it and says all done.

I know they are food he likes cause its stuff hes been eating for ages and some of his favs. I know hes hungry because if he doesnt eat much hes asking for "grates" (nutra grain) about half an hour later. I don't give in to that as I don't want him getting into the habit of having what he wants rather than whats been made.

Because of this he wakes up earlier hungry as. He doesn't muck around at breakfast but after the last month of this I'm kinda over it and the wasted food.

I made him sit there for an hour last night in hopes of getting him to eat. He sat there happily the entire time but still didn't eat. I tried songs like if your happy and you know it bite a sausage roll lol. I don't sit there and get grumpy at him.

Its a home thing as he will often do this with lunch as well but at daycare I pack a big lunch for him and he eats nearly all of it vs at home if I gave the same stuff he would just pick at it a little.

Any ideas on how i can fix this?

I think hes just being stubborn waiting to ask for the foods he wants. Like I said with daycare he will eat it all up but if we serve the exact same thing here he will eat a teeny amount so I don't think switching it will do any good. If hes at my mums or the in laws he will eat his dinner all up. So I don't believe his tummy isn't right either or else he would do this behaviour everywhere not just only at home.

I'll try putting him back every time he wants more food but I think his stubborn nature will win over his hunger.

eta: its only started since the tummy bug as he was only able to eat rice bubbles with banana for 4-5 days when he was hungry, everything else came up. He loves that combo so is expecting he ccan get what he wants iygwim

Jake doesn't eat much for dinner either. Hes slowly starting to get back into it but its been close to a year since he got a tummy bug strain like giardia and yeah only juuuust starting to eat properly.
Even now I'll often give him leftovers from dinner for breakfast and he'll eat it right up then when it was really tough getting him to eat (I think his tummy shrunk IYKWIM) I'd make a platter of different things and put it out for an hour every couple of hours and he'd pick away at that. For dinner I'd put one mouthful of everything on his plate and we'd encourage him to eat it but if he didn't thats fine he'd just get on with the night routine and then to bed. He still isn't hugely interested in dinner but with dinner for breakfast and a few small portions of different foods for lunch hes getting better.
