O.K. so as most know by now I had an elective c/section at 37 weeks with the girls due to Esme being breech but also because I wanted one.

Jess and I have talked it over and we think that when the girls turn 3 which is roughly another 2 years we would like to try for one more baby. I'm really positive that I want to have our third and final by c/section but I'm not sure what the rules are. Will they try and push me into a VBAC? Or am I automatically able to have the choice considering my previous c/section? Are there certain rules to elective c/sections?

I remember telling specialists early on that I wanted a c/section with the twins and they were constantly trying to talk me into a natural birth. It wasn't till near the end (about 35 weeks) that they realized Esme wasn't going to turn that they gave in to me.

I had an elective with my thrid (breeched) and now onto the fourth my midwife asked me if I was going to have a ceasar or not. I am not but I think once you have had a ceasar you can opt for one again.

Yes they will probably try to encourage you to have a VBAC (that's a guess though as a c/s with twins might be different to a c/s with singleton), however you can request another c/s and they can't say no. The reason being is that there are risks to trying for a VBAC and if you aren't happy taking them then they have to give you a c/s, which obviously as you would already know has it's own set of risks.

I was told by me mw that I could even decide that I wanted to go with a c/s once in labour and the option was pretty much never off the table, I say pretty much as I suspect they would have said no if I had asked as he was crowning....lol

Hi Everyone, I am about to face baby number 1 at the heady age of 41, due to some previous bad experiences I want an elective csection, however, I am a new migrant and dont know how the system works in NZ, can I just demand one or do I have to go private, how does this all happen in NZ, I am based in Auckland. Any advice welcome :0) thanks

Hi bumble - I think this is best answered by your midwife specialist - but most can not elect to have a c section just cause they want one - but if htere is a medical reason I htink some people have been able to opt to have one.

Yes I would get in contact with your LMC and see what they say.

Not quite the same but as a point of reference. I had an elective C for breech presentation last time but I was advised that if I wanted a C this time I would have to put up a bit of a fight with the hospital as they prefer me to try VBAC. So as a result I got shared care with a MW and OB. The cost of the OB under this arrangement is $2200.00 for me

However I have had a C before so not quite the same situation but hopefully something useful there for you.
