I am new to NZ's medical system, hence questions...
Right, at what age do specialist finally give baby an epi-pen? I couldn't remember why she refused to give my DS2 when we saw her few months ago (DS2 was 8/9months then) despite we live in rural. My nearer GP is 10/15mins away and good hour from nearer A&E from my house and DS2 had mild anaphylaxis shock on monday and wasn't response medication well till just before we finally arrived at GP's 45mins later.

It depends on the child's weight rather than their age. Ella had to wait until she was 10kg before getting one, which was around 1 & 1/2 yrs old, and boy was I trying to fatten her up faster! The Doc was going to arrange for me to have an ampule of adrenaline and syringe prior to that, with me being taught how to load it and administer it correctly, but later decided that that was too risky because the chances of getting it wrong and OD'ing the child (when you're not a trained pro, and possibly panicked) were risky, and the ampule would have to be kept in the cool, making taking it to the park, etc in summer a useless idea. But I have heard of someone having one before... can't remember who.
Have they given you some antihistamines yet?
