After Benjy's choking incident a couple of weeks ago, I resolved to finally do the first aid course I've been talking about since first having Ella!
Plunket referred me to Family First Aid, who then arranged to run a couple of courses at my local plunket rooms.
It was $30 for a 2 hour course which covered CPR for infants, children & adults. Choking, falls, burns, cuts, shock and anything else we cared to ask about.
The lady running it was a registered nurse with 30 years experience.
The classes are small, limited to 8 people, which meant we were all able to practice with the CPR mannequins (there were four of different 'ages') and other first aid equipment and all got to ask questions.
I found it clear and easy to understand and have come away feeling confident I'll know what to do in an emergency.
Definitely recommend doing a course to anyone whose skills are out of date like mine were, seeing Benjy choking and unable to breathe really brought home to me how easily and quickly it can happen and how fast you need to be able to react to help them!
Thanks for the reminder Mel, I've been meaning to get onto something like this too! I used to have a full first aid certificate but it is well and truly expired I think
