Does this sound like a normal reaction or intolerance or possible allergy?

A few months back he had a course of Amoxicillin (sorry spelling is prolly wrong there) and after a couple of days he had bad vomiting and diahorea. I thought this was just part of him being sick but when he went back to the docs as I got concerned he said ditch the anti's and within a day it stopped.

We were given Augmentin to help Daniel get better. He had one dose last night, one this morning now he has very runny poos and has had 3 dirty nappies in a row (he usually has one a day). So I've stopped giving it to him given his reaction to the amox. I don't want to go down that road.

MIL has a penicillin allergy, she goes into anaphalyxus shock. And i THINK that BIL has it too. But one of my docs said penicillian allergy is not heriditary.

I'm just curious if this is like a common reaction to penicillin based antibiotics or not

Sorry not sure as Hannah came out in hives immediately which is her usual reaction to stuff. Maybe you could try ringing and speaking to a nurse, tho it does sound like it could be related to the antibiotics.

I think he has had a reaction to it. Is he going to be ok for his birthday on Saturday???

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Yeah, hes getting better each day so I don't think he even needs the antis and he's still got 2 days to feel even better. His sleeping is the only real issue.

I might ring the nurse tomorrow then and ask.

I know an adult who is allergic to penicillin - his words, I don't know what that exactly means for him but he's qualified in radiology so I'd say that he's probably med enough that if he says allergic, he's allergic.

Could definitely be a reaction, there is so much variation. I am allergic to penicillin, I get covered in hives.
Drug allergies aren't neccessarily hereditary but Maya has sulpha anaphalaxis and so does my grandmother, and my brother is also highly allergic to it so you have to wonder...

im allergic to amoxycillian and heaps of the sister drugs to it and come out in what look like itchy bites that are so itchy. I was told i will need to be very careful with and of these with Josh as he could be the same and because he is little the reaction could be worse with him.

Allergic reactions to drugs can vary a lot from person to person although in my non medical opinion runny poos sounds more like an intolerance which i hope he grows out of as i have had so many doctors tell me its the best drug for treating different things i even had one doctor ask if i would put up with the itchyness even tho the more i took the worse it got stupid stupid doctor

LOL WRX, when I was in hospital with chronic mastitis and the cephlasporins weren't working the docs did debate giving me penicillin under observation coz it is the best drug for killing mastitis, but I said no way! I was sick enough as it was!

I was wondering the same thing about my daughter. She had a patch of infected eczema on her arm and the doc gave her flucloxacillin ( not sure if I spelt that right). I gave her 2.5ml mid afternoon and she seemed fine but later that night her skin flared up, she was really itchy and very agitated. We could not get her down to sleep. I rang the doc the next day and they said there was no way they could tell if that was a reaction to the antibiotic. I was too scared to give her anymore, as she is quite an allergic baby.

My little girl Brooke has had a reaction today to a antibiotic.ceclafor? Its a penicillon one.Just this morn came out in red streaks on one side of her face that lasted bout ten mins then dissapeared then tonight she had the same thing happen on other side of face.also had one hive.Hoping this is only going to be a mild reaction.she has just finished the course of antibiotics.
When we were in fiji last year she had a reaction to a sulphur based antibiotic.on day four of treatment she came out in hives all over her body.but seemed happy enough. She is full of herself tonight and I rang healthline about it.they said not to stress.Did you know you can get hives/allergic reaction to viruses in ya body?thats what the nurse told me
