I'll be having an elective this pregnancy (health reasons), and it's ages away but I'm due right about the time of my SIL's wedding I'm hoping I can have the c-section a week or two before my due date and then be able to travel outta town to her wedding with a little bubba.

How many weeks were you when you had your elective?

I was 38 weeks but had complications, I think normally they do them at 39 weeks so that you don't go into labour. Are there any public holidays around when you are due cos that can effect when they book you in as well.

Nope no public holidays - end of March. Here's hoping it's 39 weeks or before and that I'm not too crazy thinking I can travel with a 1 week old and recovering from a c-section....

39+6 (but you probably knew that)

I had some nerve "damage" with my cs .. so even after one week I still felt like sh*te .. however man they have some kick ass drugs in hospital

One thing though is get your midwife to prescribe you some "proper" pain relief, dont let her fob you off with panadol and votaren.

Mine prescribed me tramadol and it rocks! It made moving bearable, so with some proper pain relief you should be fine. (oh its resonably expensive btw .. about $1 per tablet)

Oh and one week olds are super cruisy .. Elias was two weeks when he had his little meltdown lol

I did it .. 41 kgs gone! From flab to fab in under a year LFs weight blog

My SIL has had two elective's and both times they were done 10 days before her "official" due date.

1st one was for breech and the second was due to the first.

I had my elective c-section at 39+5 days due to him being breech. If you can get up and about walking the next day and really get the pain under control and managed, then within a week it shouldn't be too bad, probably just uncomfortable, and as long as your wound is healing well and has a good strong bandage on, then it's really not too bad, although I haven't had a c-section with an older child to look after yet!    (even though I would like a vbac)

I could have physically managed attending a wedding after a week, not sure how I would have coped with the baby aswell!

If everything is ok, couldnt hurt to ask to have it at 38 weeks????

LF I had tramadol after my surgery with Harry, was awesome - I didn't feel a thing til it wore off! I took it for about 4 weeks I think.

We'll have plenty of family there to look after Harrison, and no-doubt hold the bubs (if I let them ).

Same as LF, 39+6, although it was arranged with the ob to book in for my elective at 39 weeks, by the time the midwife booked me in (and it was Labour Day that week too) I ended up having to wait til 39+5 but then the hospital re-booked me for first thing the next day. I was moving around fine by day 5 post-op which was vastly different to my first time (crash section after 3 days of labour, I was in pain for weeks afterwards... turned out I had a massive abcess brewing under there!) and I had no pain relief after day 2 (first day was pethidine via the patient controlled pump, then tramadol on day 2)

Best of luck that this one stays put for you right up until eviction day next year

I didnt have an elective but after a week there was no way I could have managed travelling, I wasnt allowed to leave the house for 2 weeks lol

It really depends how the c section goes for you I guess, as you know mine was a emergency and I had complications afterwards so thats why my recovery took ages(6 weeks until I felt "normalish")
Electives are much easier and from what my MW said the recovery much faster, I will end up having an elective at 41 weeks if I havent had bubs by then, so I will know the difference between recoverys then.

I had my elective c-section booked in for 38 weeks 5 days. Mind you, my elective was booked in when I was 16 weeks pregnant, due to health reasons.

It just really depends on the ob, I know some do them at 37 weeks (which is dubious for single pregnancies), but my ob said he always booked in electives for 38 weeks 5 days so less chance of breathing and feeding complications.

Last time it was Elective at 37.5 weeks but that isn't a great indication as she had to come out early due IUGR.

But this one is booked for 10 days prior to my EDD and I understand that's pretty standard.

You'll be in hospital for 3-4 days and honestly you'll be wiped out for a while after that. I went to Pakaranga for Christmas lunch exactly a week after Rowan was born and I was absolutely exhausted and in pain when I got back. It was one of the few days after I got out that I needed to take my tramadol.

5 days in hospital...

walked around after leaving hospital ok but was exhausted...and bleeding like nothing on earth anyways....

38 weeks as I was due Christmas Eve. So I elected 2 weeks early. They seemed happy to get mine out of the way to reduce their workload at Christmas.

My first came 2 weeks early (due to a gastric bug), so I mentioned that I had an early one first time round and then got in early for the c-section.

Mine was for health reasons, so they weren't taking any chances. I was in for 7 days so was glad I was early and home for Christmas.

I ended up having an elective this time, got to 41 weeks lol.

MW said if I have another baby, then it would have to be an elective c section and at 39 weeks, due to the fact that my babies love my womb and get into tricky positions! Isabella was so in there the surgon needed to use forceps and A LOT of force to get her out, so I need to have my elective early so bubs is not in such a tricky position.
