QuoteReplyTopic: Longer Stories to read to a preschooler Posted: 12 November 2009 at 9:09pm
Hi
My DD is 3 1/4 and it starting to enjoy longer stories with no/few pictures. We started by reading Beatrix Potter and have been reading Milly-Molly-Mandy and Enid Blyton's Naughty Amelia Jane and she really loves them even though they are so old fashioned. I would like to read something that is a similar format (each chapter a separate story about the same characters, no/few pictures, takes about 10mins to read) but that set in this century! Does anyone have any suggestions? Our local library is hopeless and anything I can remember from my childhood is not modern!
I'm sorry, I'm not any help but I think it's a great idea, my dd would love that. There's a fairy series of paperbacks but I can't remember what it's called.
I really really love the Faraway Tree, The Enchanted Wood and The Wishing Chair by Enid Blyton, they were my favourite books growing up and I still re-read them every now and again. They are a wee bit longer though so would probably take about 10 minutes for each chapter.
What about Dr Seuss books? Green Eggs And Ham is a cool one!
Thanks guys - you are totally on the right track. She loves Green Eggs and Ham and the original Winnie the Pooh too. I just thought there might be things published more recently - maybe we'll just have to stick to the classics!
Hi Sheza - I kinda dropped out of things for the last couple of months of my pregnancy but I'll check out the Aug thread and see how things are going for ya all.
