Firstly, how long after a c-section should I wait before trying for a second baby?
Other than that, how do you decide to try VBAC or elective C? What are some so for or against VBAC? I mean, what's the risks of VBAC v's surgical risks of c-section?
I guess what I'm getting at is where can you get good info on pregnancy post c-section

I'm not sure there's any set length of time you should wait, although I remember asking my mw the same thing and she said ideally I should leave it a year or so. Different people heal differently so less time (or more, for that matter) might be useful for different people iygwim.

most doctors will tell you to wait 12mths or more if you want to try for a vbac...if you get pregnant under the 12mth mark then you more than likely will need to have another csection as there is more of a chance of the scar rupturing during labour.

Er not so Kazzle, maybe 12 months between births... I got pregnant again when my first was 10months old & they definitely preferred me to attempt a vbac.
The actual risk of rupture is very small.
A little known fact is that STATISTIALLY a woman is more likely to rupture her uterus in her first ever labour than a woman attempting a vbac.
Also I have discovered that successive c-sections have greater health risks for both mum & baby.
BUT at the end of the day you do have to make the decision yourself in what you personally feel safer with...
The websites that weegee has posted are great to look at.
It is hard to find a website that will give you the risks involved without some bias either way.
While there have been a lot of studies overseas there have been very little done here in NZ which does make a successful VBAC harder than it should be. There is an old book called The Silent Knife which is very good (although biased towards VBAC LOL) and although is old & quite american, it still has a lot of studies with actual facts that you can reference to help make your decision.

i suppose it depends on the doctors, my doctor told me to wait 12mths between pregnancies.
I think it also depends on what type of pregnancy you hve as well...for example my pregnancies are high risk, so the longer i wait between pregnancies the better it is for me and baby

the OB at the hospital said 12 months to me..when i got preg at 10 months they werent worried(though mced baby) ...
I am leaning towards c section because E nearly died last time and noone told me he was posterier etc and the whole thing was a medicated disaster (except the end bit) and I dont want to risk all that again..having said that recovery with a toddler will be much harder.. as the PP said it's totally a personal thing based on a lot of factors.. I'm one of the few leaning towards c instead of VBAC in my group..
c carries same risks as any major surgery really..

I was also told 12 months but that was 12 months between births not 12 months to wait to get pregnant. As it's the stress of labour on the scar that is the issue not the pregnancy itself (or that was the way the doc explained it to me anyway).
I got pregnant with Kyle when Spencer was 10 months and had a VBAC no trouble at all, my c/s was an elective for being breech, not sure what yours was for because obviously different circumstances will mean different reasons for doing either. For me there was no reason why I wouldn't be able to give birth successfully and the only reason i didn't first time around was purely because of his position, therefore trying for a vbac with a baby in the right position was always gonna be worth a try.
Is really good to get a mw that is confident to do them but that is also not gonna be too pushy and try to force you to if you change your mind. Mine was super supportive of me trying but always reassured me that even if I was in labour I could pull the plug and ask to go to surgery if I changed my mind.
The risks for a VBAC are all the normal ones for a natural birth, plus the miniscule risk of a scar rupture (which with the amount of extra monitoring and time limits etc is almost pretty much guaranteed to never happen cos they would have you in surgery way before then). For another c/s I believe there is an increased risk for things like trouble with scar tissue, healing etc. Although some women find healing from an elective easier in comparison if they had an emergency one previously.

I wasn't told anything.
We had planned on waiting until Caden was nearly 2 before trying but I fell pregnant again when he was 5 1/2 months old.
I was allowed to try a VBAC, I saw a specialist at 30 weeks and he told me the risks and all that, but you are monitored really well, and as soon as something looks like its going "wrong" they will take you in for a C Section.
I didn't get my VBAC in the end, as I have children who don't like to come out! lol, at 41 weeks we decided to go in for an elective rather than risk another horribly long labour and Emergency C Section(Caden was 12 days over due also).
As for a second C Section, everything went fine, I had minimal scar tissue so that was good.
