Topic: cheap pregnancy & ovulation tests Posted: 11 January 2010 at 9:30pm |
hey ladies,
i have been ttc for around a year now and no luck yet. i have been buying my pregnancy tests at the supermarket (SO expensive ) until i tried trademe...
there's a trader on there called onions41 who sells ovulation tests really cheaply and says they come with a surprise. well, the surprise was a free pregnancy test!
after i completed the trade the trader offered me pregnancy test strips at $1 each free postage, the cassette version for $1.50 each and the midstream ones for $2 each. apparently she said you can sell them on trademe.
i'm about to start this cycle armed with clomid, ovulation tests and pregnancy tests. surely this one has got to be it!

Hey Ashley,
welcome to OB!! Ive been ttc #3 for about a year now too and soooo hear on how expensive it gets with testing... I get mine from OracleFertility in Oz and they work out really cheap... around 50 cents plus postage... however, the one your talking about sounds real cheap for midstream!
Come join us in the charting thread!
Good Luck and I hope the clonid does the trick

Hey Freckle!
urgh... charting - the idea of that scares me too much. i think i would just get too obsessive. even as it is i spend the entire 2ww on google trying to figure out whether having sensitive hearing all of a sudden or dreams about rollercoasters could possibly be an early pregnancy symptom!
thanks for the luck, im really hoping the clomid does the trick, but at the same time a little freaked that it's going to do the trick too well... yikes, i dont want triplets! just one please.
i'll keep my fingers crossed for you too :D

lol ashley - it's so hard to resist the temptation to obsess eh.... and I too have spent hours on google... Ive given up charting my temp at the mo for various reasons but I do chart other fertility signs (i.e. CM)... don't worry if your not charting the charting thread is where most us TTCers hang out so come chat with us
and yeah triplets may be a bit much eh... I wouldn't mind twins though does clomid increase the chance of multiples?

I was on clomid for two years and we never got pregnant without an IUI - studies say that clomid dries up cervical mucus and one article I read even said that it will hinder your chances of natural conception cause of the dried up cm, so IUI or other 'assisted' methods are the only way to get pregnant.
My advice to you is to ditch the clomid (unless you have been prescribed it for VERY valid reasons) and do charting. That worked for me on the first cycle I tried with no clomid. I knew exactly when I ovulated - and to my horror I discovered that I Ov'd 2 days PRIOR to the opk's telling me that I had! So for two years we had completely missed the boat and had spent an astronomical amount on fertility treatments which we didn't need.
Do you ovulate regularly? Is your cycle normal? (Charting will tell you this). Has your specialist checked how many follicles you produce WITHOUT clomid? That would be my first question to him. If you are producing 2+, then I would question the need for Clomid. It's not a drug to take lightly, believe me. And you should never be on it for more than 6 months or it breaks down your endometrial lining, and you need that lining to SUPPORT PREGNANCY. And long-term use can promote ovarian cancer...!!!!
Have a read of my blog (on my profile) to understand more about clomid and it's positive and negative effects.
Yes Clomid increases the chances of multiples.
Sorry if my post is a bit of a downer, but I just don't think we are informed enough before being prescribed these drugs.

Hi Ladies!
Thanks for all the replies. You sure know how to make a gal feel welcome
I have been in two minds about the clomid thing, I'm petrified I'm going to end up with triplets. The understanding I have of it is that my body sort of has a false ovulation. Everything gears up ready to go and things seem on the right track, but then nothing happens. I still get my period (relatively) regularly though. The doctor diagnosed me with PCOS, and my weight is a bit of a challenge too. It is really easy for me to gain a lot of weight really quickly (sometimes 4kgs in one month). That is usually because I get sick of obsessing over what I eat and start comfort eating on BK and sweet treats. I have a sweet tooth that is barely ever satisfied.

An important thing to note for your maternity leave. You can continue earning money even staying at home, look at the Forex market. Read reviews to choose the correct broker fxpro usa www.tradersunion.com/brokers/forex/view/fxpro/. The trading needs some knowledge and training, but this all is possible from home. Once you master the basics, try to realize your first deal.
