Topic: Thrush or allergy or something else Posted: 04 July 2010 at 3:53pm |
Mac had a nappy rash that was diagnosed as Thrush a few month ago. Since then we've had the cream for it, used it as directed but I'm finding the rash keeps coming and going. One day it can be nil, the next it can be red raw, bumpy (almost like Hives) and just plain angry. But I didn't think Trush would come and go like this?
Currently I'm trying taking Rice out of Mac's diet to see if thats affecting the rash cause it went away basically when he wasn't eating and now that he's back eating, it has flared up badly.
Could also be flaring up due to his teething though.
But anyway, my actual question is, does Thrush come and go? IE, gone one day, bad the next and the next day (after putting medicated cream on) gone again.

I was told to keep up the cream for 1 week AFTER symptoms faded to kill any lingering fungus or it would flare up again. So maybe it would?

Have you tried giving him probiotics?
A bacteria upset in the gut can cause thrush to reoccur. Proboitics can correct the good:bad bacteria imbalance...

I take pro-biotics myself. I did wonder about getting it in powder form for Mac. I will also try what T_Rex said and use the cream even when the rash has gone. Kel - How do I wash the cloth nappies in Cannestan? Buy a tube of it and put it in the wash or can you get a washing powder form of it? (I felt really dumb typing that cause I kind of feel like "Dah, you're a girl, you should know about all this Thrush stuff ")

Yep that's the one. I got it from the supermarket. I just put a capful in the rinse part.
You can get a dairy free pro-botic. I wondered about giving it to Cooper as well.

Just a word of warning if your baby has got sensetive skin, they can react to the canesten. I went out and bought some after reading this thread. Thought it was a good idea to try it in my nappy wash as DD has had a rash coming and going for a while. Today I took my poor little girl to the doctor with big blisters all over her lower tummy. The doctor thought it was a reaction from the nappies.
Has anyone else had this type of reaction?

I used it in the rinse cycle and then an extra rinse.
I should have known not to try something new, she has reacted to disposeble nappies before as well but not this bad. I normally just use natural products on her. I think I will stick to soaking my nappies is teatree oil and bakingsoda and wash in ecostore washing powder.
I felt so bad for her but aleast she's looking a bit better today and seem a little happier.
