    Posted: 02 August 2010 at 12:51pm
I'm looking at doing an activities group for littlies where we all get involved. I think it will be a great way to share ideas for keeping our kids and babies entertained. Plenty of room at my house which is in Silverstream/Heretaunga, plus large, fully-fenced garden so we can safely do outdoor activities when the weather is fine. I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old so I'd be looking at activities suitable for babies and toddlers.

Some things I was thinking we could do:

Themed arts and crafts ie. one mum will bring their favourite kids book to read to the kids and then we make something crafty thats relevant to the book.

Once a month have a dress-up theme and then do activities relevant to that theme.

Music and dance

Sports day - kids brings their ride-ons and have races, create an obstacle course, kicking a ball together etc.

Treasure hunts

Nature walks

I was thinking maybe of starting around 9.30 - kids have free play for half an hour while adults get sorted with activity, then morning tea, story then into the activity, then finish off with music/singing/dance.

Or if mornings are too difficult then we could do it in afternoon from 2 til 4.

So is anyone keen and what day and time would suit?
Sue

Oh wow great idea! Would be really keen! We are free any day except Monday and Thursday mornings.

More ideas if you want some are:

Planting seedlings in the kids own pots to take home (use yogart pots or something)
For younger kids a playmat with different things like cups, bangles, containers etc for them to explore

ermmmm will have to brainstorm some more things

Yay. Can't wait to get started now.

Hannahbil - great ideas. I'm looking forward to everyone's ideas, because so often I'm stuck for new and interesting things to do.

Sue - I would have been interested but it's just a bit early for me to get over that way after school drop off - good idea though.

I had thought about 9.30start with free play so people can turn up anytime between 9.30 and 10, but we could do it from 10 to 12 if that suits people better?

So it's looking like either Wed or Fri mornings suit everyone? Out of those two days which is the preferred one?

Ok cool - so how about next Friday (the 13th)? Thought maybe we could have an Incy Wincy Spider theme and get the kids to make and decorate their own spiders from egg cartons and pipe cleaners. I've got a recipe for edible finger paint which I'll make so babies can have a bit of fun with paint too

Next Friday should be good for us, as long as Taylah is better. She has been sick this week.

Taylah loves anything messy!! I can also get recipes from Playcentre too for things like playdough, paints etc

Well I thought I should probably experiment with the edible finger paint before unleashing it on other babies so I made some today. Briannah had a ball...
