pretty sure after hours is free within the 6 week post-natal period. I had a massive abcess burst when my oldest was 3 weeks old and had to go to the nearest A&E and it was free under the post-natal health scheme.

Unless things have changed since then, but my midwife with Darian said a prescription for something she gave me was free as it was within 6 week period too?

I don't think its free anymore babykatnz cause I had to go to A&E yesterday and go on a drip for mastitis and my babe is only one week old and it cost me $65! I had another drip today and will continue for having one each day for the next few days but apparently the $65 consult fee covers the rest of my visits for this mastitis. I wish it was free though, I actually did think it was free too until yesterday

i just went straight back into maternity ward office when I had problems and couldnt get hold of Lead MW, they addmited me straight away and got the head MW into check me followed by the OB and that was just for lots of bleeding after c/s as only bleed for 4days then nothing for 4wks then lots in one day. CANT BELIEVE your MW's told you to go to afterhours A&E!!! How rude!!!!! MW are always on the ward 24/7 at the hosptial here in Timaru and are LOVELY!
