Just interested to hear from those of you who have had a VBAC with a big baby. My DS was 9lb 6oz and c-section for obstructed labour as he was also posterior with head de-flexed. I'm due any day now with #2 and have just had another scan which estimates this baby to be much the same size (although I know size estimates at this gestation as notoriously unreliable) however this baby is in a better position. Please tell me it can be done! lol

Of course it can be done! My aunty had a 10lb 10 with c-sect then went on to have a 10lb 13oz VBAC home birth with no issues. Just keep telling your self that your body knows what to do. Keep moving throught labour and try not to be checked very often (if at all). Forget the fetal monitor as they are just a pain and go with the flow. Good luck

My DD was 10lb 2oz and a c section, she came out with her head tilted back and to the side (so in a very poor position!)
So far this babe is measuring bigger than DD was at this stage, but Im not worried, I know my body can birth a 10lb baby, why would it make a baby that was too big to birth? (big flaw in there somewhere!) I am not tall (163cm), I dont put 100% trust in scans on weight estimates (even tho DD was 30gm off her estimate!), I do believe that DDs poor position was a major factor in the failed induction/c section, and am/will do all I can to make sure this one is in a better position
Hmm I wonder if I can find some birth stories for you (if you want them?)

My c/s baby was only tiny at 7lbs 12oz but she was obstructed (due to me having a twisted pelvis) and her head never decended into my pelvis. After seeing a chiro i went on to birth a 9lber, 8lbs 7oz, 8lbs 10oz and my giant 9lbs 12oz.

9lb 12oz is giant? Jeez.. :P I thought that was average! Never fear, your baby wouldnt grow so large if your body wasnt able to deliver.. Wasnt there a woman in the UK that had a 14lb baby recently or something?

edit: The heaviest baby at birth, according to the Guinness book of world records, weighed 23.12lb (10.8kg) and died 11 hours after birth. The baby was born to Anna Bates who lived in Canada in 1879. Anna was 7ft 5 inches tall.

heres some other amazing sized babies:

That one must have come out with a college degree and all :P

My 2nd baby was a 9lb 7oz VBAC. They had estimated her weight at well over 11lb the day before she was born and told me a VBAC wasn't an option. However, I did have a great birth and she did everything perfect despite me being stuck on my back the whole time (epi was a requirement for the trial of labour). So yep, it can definitely be done. All the best, I hope you get it

Although I'm sure in most cases (hey, look at Mum) it would be fine, I am interested in a couple of comments - surely your body can make an oopsie, though, and build a baby too big for you to have naturally? My cousin is a large-boned pakeha chap, and his wife is a tiny Phillipino lady, and I'm pretty sure she was told that the babies head circumference was just too big to fit out her pelvis...

I agree with you Hopes, CPD definitely exists although it tends to be over diagnosed. I don't believe my son was too big for me to birth, he was just in a really crap position but I feel the c-section was a good call to make.

My chances are getting slimmer by the day though as I am now "overdue" and my elective date is looming....

They're pretty amazing organs. Not that I've ever asked Mum specifically (well, you wouldn't, would you!) but she's never mentioned that it didn't. It was the c-sections she had that did the damage to her (not that she's complaining, they were necessary).

Out of interest, Mum had four natural births, and she says my 12lb 6oz brother was the easiest! He was her fourth, which probably helped, but there you go.

The baby being in a good position is half the battle won!

Here is a VBAC birth story of a 12lb 11oz baby. The baby was posterior until close to the end of labour, hence the long pre-labour.

5.76kg

All the very best with your VBAC!

ETA: I can't seem to get it to link properly, sorry. Try cutting and pasting if it isn't hyperlinking.

I had a VBAC with DD who was 9lbs 6oz, she was in a good poisition unlike DS who was posterior.

I measured 2 weeks ahead from around 30 weeks and at 32ish weeks had a scan and was told DD was approx 7lbs 9oz which was the same weight DS was at birth Bu

But it was all good, out she came
