Hi All, who has had a lap op?
i have been to the fertility specialist last week and been told i need a one! They are going to check for Endo and also check my tubes.
So i have some questions for those who have had this done!

Did you go Public or Private? What were the wait times for both?
Who did you get booked through for either public or private? (like did you ring the hospital to book or your FS)
Did you stay in hospital over night?
How long would you reccomend to take off work?

And the biggest one for me right now...
Did it hurt? and how long did you have to wait for BDing time???

Any other tips anyone has would be much appreciated!!!

Also any questions that you think i should ask when booking it in?

Hey Pocohontas I had my Lap in December 2011 - not long ago. What I have learnt from reading different threads is that everyone's experience is slightly different, but you can get great advice from all the ladies on here

Did you go Public or Private? I went private through FA, they referred me to Anglesea Womens (in hamilton). If your FS told you you need one they will sort it all out for you.
Did you stay in hospital over night? no, I was feeling pretty good after, but I think I should have, remember that when you wake up you are still drugged up and that doesn't wear off for a while.
How long would you reccomend to take off work? I took a week off but it varies for different people - I work in an office but I found my tummy/abs got sore by the end of the day, as I don't lean back against my chair. My brain was fine, just got tired by the end of the day.

And the biggest one for me right now...
Did it hurt? not much, drugs are great :) But I do recommend lying FLAT for a couple of days after - *TMI ALERT* they pump gas into your stomach to see everything, and it takes a while to seep out through your pores - I was sitting in my lazy-boy for a couple of days and got very swollen down there which hurt and kinda freaked me out, I think if I had laid flat on the couch I would have been fine
and how long did you have to wait for BDing time??? We could have BD'd after about a week but then AF came...

Other tips - if you are going through medical insurance, when you talk to them don't mention that it is for fertility - they may decline it if they think that is the only reason. I was being checked for Endo too, and I told them I have very painful periods, that was fine :)

Also take a pillow with you for the drive home - your tummy will be a little sore/funny feeling, and it's nice to have something between you and the seatbelt :)

i got one done last week :-)

went private (and stupid insurance wouldn't pay) said i would never get it done on a public list (could be due to where i live).

I needed about 4 days off - i went back to work after 3 but ended up coming home early so def take an extra day once you feel right (mine was mild endo so if you have severe case it may take more recovery)

it hurt - well the first couple of hours did but the drugs helped with that...i only took drugs for the first day after then as needed...not tried BD yet as AF arrived two days later...

and a week out i am still tender in the cut marks and still got some brusing but am fine...

Good luck!

Hey Poco, I've had two laps now, one public and one private. The public one was September last year and the wait was really short - about a month in total. I was shocked! The private one was a couple of weeks, like Beanie I had it done at Angelsea in Hamilton.

The first time my OB/GYN sorted it, and the second time my FS sorted it. The first time I didn't stay overnight, I spent a few hours in recovery and was pretty slow. The second one I did spend the night and I'm glad I did! I was really tired and sore and the hospital is nice! Both times I took about a week off work, but this last lap took me longer to recover as I had stage 3 endo removed (that they didn't see the first time around!).

They look after you really well, it hurts a little but I think the recovery from the general is what knocked me around a bit more. But on the bigger scale, it isn't too bad. As Beanie said, everyone has different experiences.

I agree with the pillow idea, and also a wheatpack

On the plus side, at least you'll have some answers either way Good luck!

Oh and we got told not to BD for 2 weeks

We went private, and it was all a silly amount of fast - I was seeing the Dr one day, then being called to ask me to arrange leave for the next week, I think.

I did stay overnight - I had my surgery later in the day and I think from memory that's the only reason that they kept me in. I was glad they did, though, because they filled me up with some kind of liquid to stop the wounds adhering to each other and it leaked out all night and I kept waking in a puddle. No fun at home!

I took three days then the weekend off work, although I did pop in to work on the Saturday.

I can't remember when we BD'd after, but it can't have been too long, I never got AF back
