Topic: Big sleeper .... Posted: 28 May 2010 at 3:06pm |
Hey, if you had a child that still had a big day nap at 3 years (Jakes three next month and sleeps for 2-4hrs in the arvo still) when did they drop the nap?
All the kids I know his age seem to have dropped it (some of them a year ago!) or are only having a short nap / starting to drop it. But there are some out there who still need a nap, aren't there?? He definitely needs it ... the two days he missed it, he fall asleep on the couch at 5pm and we could not wake him!!
I'm not complaining. Just kinda wonder if its something to do with him being born with a heart defect, or if hes "normal" and just likes sleep, like me!

Daniel sometimes needs a sleep but only a couple of times a week now. He tells us very firmly 'no bed' most days

Ivy was napping daily for around 2hrs from 3yrs - 4yrs, then it was every other day, then just the weekends - hell she still has a nap some afternoons in the weekend, and sometimes she ends up falling asleep at around 530 or asking for an early dinner so that she can go to bed early. Some kids just need a lot of sleep!

Isla is 3 1/2 and still has 1 1/2-2hrs nap per day, everyday. Would only be a problem if she went to kindy cos of the afternoon kindy generally starts around 12.30ish. Shes in daycare 3 days a week so sleeps there.
She has only ever slept 10 1/2 hrs at night tho, so over 24 hrs she is getting about the same ammount of sleep as other kids her age, almost all of which dont have a day sleep but sleep 12 hrs at night.

Nikki- Ella still sleeps 2-3 hrs during the day (if she goes past 3 hrs then I wake her) and 12 hrs at night, so I wouldn't be too worried. She doesn't sleep when she goes to daycare through (2 days a week), but those days is so tired in the evening and usually has a huge day sleep the next day.
Enjoy it I say

Aww, Ella - her and Jake have had a few similarities, if I remember correctly!
Makes me feel better, thanks guys. Jake sleeps about 11 hours overnight, and on his two daycare days he only sleeps about 1.5hrs, hence the really long naps the other days.
OK, will enjoy it while it lasts ....

Ollie would probably still be having afternoon naps if he wasn't in kindy. We stopped them a few weeks before he started kindy at the start of the year, so he was 3.5yrs. Most days by bedtime he is practically asleep when his head hits the pillow!
Yep definitely enjoy it while it lasts

Jack is almost four and a half and still has a nap! I try and keep him up but he falls asleep on the floor. Apparently hi father was the same and needed a nap after school. Caprece sleeps most days but only about an hour.
