Topic: The twins are here!! Posted: 25 June 2005 at 9:22am |
Hi everyone, Heres the update....
I went in to Wellington hosp on Tuesday 21st for a planned C-Section and ended up with an unplanned induction.
It turned out that the presenting twin was head down and after a long and very difficult time of decision making I chose to be induced.
After having an epidural, they broke my waters for twin A at around 11:30 am, I then started getting contractions almost straight away. By 1:30pm I was almost ready to push and the team of specialists, Anesthesiologist, Pediatrician and another midwife was called into the room.
Twin A ended up being delivered by forceps as twin B's heart rate kept dropping and she was born at 1:49pm twin B followed 7 minutes later at 1:56pm and was a footling breech.
Both of the girls are well and healthy, Twin A is Bree Anderson and weighed 6lb 13oz and Twin B is Ella Brooke and weighed 6lb 14oz... so much for the weight difference it was all of 20gms!!!
We are now home and doing well, feeding well and slowly getting into a sleep pattern. The boys are enjoying having sisters although Sam is finding it hard not being our baby any more.
I will post photos once I get the chance.. but for now I have to go and do the mum thing.

Congrats! You should be so proud having a natural birth, I don't know if I'd even be brave enough to try it.
Are the girls identical?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your congrats and thoughts.
The girls are not identical, thankfully! I did find it weird telling them apart in the first 24 hours but now they are almost a week old and you can definitly tell them apart. Their personalities are really different also, Ella is alot more awake and feeds more often than Bree and Bree is alot more content, both of them are really good babies and so far no major problems.
To answer your question Xandersmum, we had decided on the names before they were born and had always thought Ella - A and Bree - B, as it turned out Bree was the presenting baby (A) but I just couldnt bring myself to call her Ella, it just didnt feel right. I am really glad I went with my instinct now as they really suit their names.
I really cant believe how fast the last week has gone, this time last week I was still pregnant and as big as a house lol, now I feel like a whole new person
