Who do you use and why? How much (roughly?) do you pay, and what does that cover???

Was just thinking we should probably get medical insurance for DS and I. I haven't really started looking into it at all yet though. I'm 99% sure DH is covered with the IL's farm, but DS and I aren't covered.

We use Southern Cross because my Mum signed me up when I was born and now DH's work pays the premium for us and up to 4 kids. My latest letter shows DH's work pays $92 for us and the kids a month. This is for their regular care plan which covers GPs, specialists, hospital, surgery. The only things that we use that aren't covered are Optometrist and contacts etc and Osteo (although they cover Chiropractor)

ETA: although apparently I can pay extra for them to cover optometrist and contacts

We're with Sovereign. I'm not sure exactly what we pay for the medical part of our insurance to the dollar (we pay that and our other insurance all in a lump sum) but I think it's about $80 a month. That doesn't cover GPs visits, though, just the bigger stuff.

We went with Sovereign because when we got quotes etc they were happy to completely ignore some of my pre-existing conditions (even though we gave them every detail), which was a real bonus. I've been really pleased with them, we've only claimed once for my lap surgery but they were very friendly, fast, and covered some stuff I wasn't sure whether they would - I've got nothing but good things to say about them.

Southern Cross here. For DH and I and 2 kiddies its $80ish a month for surgical and specialist care.

You really need to ring and ask because each plan varies soooo much in price as I recently changed our plan.

With kids it pays to get them on a plan asap because then they get covered for everything. MIL did this with DH and he has an eye condition. if we switched now no one would cover his eyes but cause his mum got him insured when he was born it is. I will always have exclusions on my policy because of "pre existing conditions"

We're with UniMed (always have been) we pay $55 for the two of us, that is specialist, surgical and doctors on their UniCare plan (second top plan). I've never been able to find anything cheaper. I've had 7 operations and they've always been excellent with approval and paying out.

Southern Cross are popular but are actually fairly expensive. Their claims history is good though which is important.

We are on the Wellbeing 2 plan with Southern Cross. We used to be under my work cover (2 years ago was $12 p/m) but now we are under DHs work cover (approx $80 p/m - my work was obviously more generous!). We only really have it for major operations and the associated costs as if something came up we would want it to be treated immediately. I guess it's like any insurance - after having car and contents for 10 years I made a claim for a broken camera this year, first claim ever!

For those who are added on to their partners insurance through Southern Cross and paying for it themselves, it may be worth looking into how much it would cost for you and your children to be on your own policy, often adult rates on group plans are more expensive than standard rates, depending on various things like the industry/occupation and average age of the people on your partners group plan.

Like Clover I am with Unimed. They are brilliant. I have super duper mario cover & it's 82 a month for me. The lady commented to me to never drop my insurance as I'd never get the same package back, it was a better deal than their staff had. Been with them so long now!

Haven't bothered covering the kids cause medical care is free under 5.

Southern Corss, been with them since 1984 when we moved to NZ as dad got it with his work.

For me it is currently $28 a fortnight for me nad the boys (DH doesn;t have it), this is about to go up to $33 a fortnight as I have claimed quite a bit so I have lost my no claims bonus.

We are on the Wellbeing 2 plan so her have specialist and hospital cover. I love the plan and will add on drs once both boys are 6.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Good afternoon! I have regular insurance for sure, which I took out a long time ago. Recently I met with good people who advised me to read here about insurance more information. I was surprised when I read this, as I learned a little new information for myself, which I had not even thought about before.
