Is anyone else having a winter of never-ending illness?

Mr 4 has not gone 2 weeks without picking up a cold or infection of some sort all winter. He's just come off his second round of 10 days of antibiotics in 2 weeks and is once again sick with a cough/cold/streaming green snot.

Miss 6 has not had it quite so bad but has had a cold or bug at least once a month. She's currently coughing so hard she is vomiting with it.

DH has had at least 4 colds, currently has the same one as DD.

I've had plenty too, but (touches wood) don't seem to have had it as badly as DH & the kids, maybe because I had the flu jab?

Either way, it is really starting to get me down. I wonder what the heck we're doing wrong that the kids, particularly DS are getting sick all the time?
They eat a pretty balanced diet and we're supplementing with Vit C and active manuka honey.
I just don't know what else I can do. My poor kids
At least it has all been easily treatable stuff so far, but it is horrible having it so often!

I got called into the office at kindy on Monday to be told that DS is getting close to being bumped off the roll if he has much more absence.

Sorry for the big vent, I'm just feeling very blue about it at the moment and hoping that I'm not the only one whose family is having a cruddy winter.
With baby due in 5 weeks I'm really hoping things turn around soon, this sucks!

aww hugs mel... It is just a phase... maybe look at it as they are getting rid of all the bugs now before the baby arrives!
on a side not though i dont thinky kindy can kick you off if he has been sick! and shame on them for trying to make you feel bad. if they are part of a kindergarten association check out their website and make sure.

We have had the same thing this winter. Its daniels first winter amongst so many kids though so I've sorta expected it. We have caught most of it too from Daniel but not all of them.

We've had heaps too, mainly just colds for Jake (hes been in daycare a while) but its Morgans first winter in daycare so shes had a rough time, plus they had rotovirus so threw up for WEEKS!

But I can't believe your kindy said that. Daycare never threaten to kick you out --- they are always trying to get you to stay home with sick kids. Would they prefer you came in sick?????!!! That worries me a little, as Jake is about to start kindy and I just assumed they would have a similar policy to daycare regarding keeping sick kids at home!

Thanks guys, makes me feel better!

Been to Dr again this morning. E has ear and throat infection.

The kindy thing is apparently because of a new Auckland Kindergarten Association thing, I didn't really understand the newsletter but I think if you go over a certain amount of days absent within a time period, without Dr's cert, you're automatically bumped off. The kindy teacher didn't really understand it either, brilliant!
I got the Dr to write us up a certificate for the most recent absences while we were there today so hopefully that will give us some room.

Yep, same here. What with reflux and then swine flu and who knows what else, my nine-month-old has been healthy for maybe 6 weeks of her life so far?! It sucks big time, and makes life hard, hard work. I hope the sun comes out and it all improves soon, especially before your bub arrives!

Hugs chick! DS has been the same...cold after cold glue ear, chest, ear and throat infections, asthma and I could go on lol. I agree after a while it does get ya down I find by the time DS has had a round or 2 of antiobiotics his immune system is shot and he gets everything going around, I started him on a probiotic powder about 2.5weeks ago and his nose is finally cleared * touches wood * lol and he is back to himself and finally eating and is his happy again...I dont know if it's a coincidence or the probiotic but i'm enjoying it while it lasts hehe

I hope everyone's winter ill's leave all ya houses soon! BRING ON SUMMER!!!!

We have had everything this winter too, inlcluding chicken pox but they managed to alternate having the pox so they were in quarantine for anour 4 weeks with pox and tummy bug at the same time. sigh.

Roll on sunshine and hopefully less sicky bugs around!

Yep we have Mel and its been awul

It started in May! We all got this awful flu, not a head cold the full on flu, then a few weeks later we all got a nasty tummy bug, which saw us sick for a week.
Then we had a brief break between bugs, then it started again, tummy bug, flu, ear infections, sore throats, cold, coughs, another tummy bug and so on and so forth

At the moment, Im getting over another cold, and have a nasty cough and DH is the same, and Cadens just had an ear infection and conjuntivitis. Im at my wits end, and had a mega melt down about it the other day.

I cant wait for some sunshine!!

DD's winter hasn't been quite as bad this year but last year was soooo terrible I completely understand where you are coming from. Last year she had 22 (yes 22!) bouts of bronchiolitis - pretty much one every second week. She had cold after cold after cold along with multiple complications (ear infections, glue ear, chest infections, throat infections) and four stays in hospital. I had her checked and her immune levels are fine although she was a little low in iron. Maybe you could try probiotics or something like that but otherwise I'd say its just a particularly unlucky phase. One thing I was very very careful about this year was hand washing (hers and mine). I don't know if this made any difference because I still ended up with the flu but she was a lot less sick so maybe it helped? Hard to know.

Anyway hope things get better for you now that summer is just around the corner.
