Just wondering does it cost to have a c-sec after an emergency one?
Or does it depend on circumstances etc etc??

nope if you have had one c/s then you get to choose to have another one afterwards on the public system. Sometimes depending on circumstances they recommend a second one anyway.
When you get pregnant 2nd time you will get an appointment with an OB at some point and they talk over pros and cons of VBAC and c/s so that you can choose which way you want to go.

My understanding is they will push towards a VBAC as much as possible but I believe if you have had an emergency c/section you are automatically able to choose to have an elective second time around. So if you want one just stand your ground and make it clear. Your midwife will probably push for a VBAC because I don't think midwives get paid for c/section births.
I had an elective for my first so I'm hoping that still gives me the option to do the same next time.

I had a crash c-section with #1, and #2 was due 5.5 years later... my midwife fully expected me to try VBAC, but I knew I couldnt cope mentally with the idea, and the ob I saw around 34 weeks was happy to let me have an elective, esp after reading through my operation report from #1. He did say that had he NOT seen the report, he would have tried convincing me of a VBAC too... No cost at all. It will be done at your local hospital (not sure what part of Auck you are in, so it could be any of them, depending on your area) and if all goes well, you have the option of transferring to a unit afterwards.

I never got pushed to try a VBAC, it was my choice, I could have tried, but at 9 days overdue I opted to bring my elective forward.
My MW still gets paid - becuase she cares for me during pregnancy, and she is able to come into theater with me, and do the check on the baby etc, and cares for me post birth for 6 weeks.
It will be different for each MW I think.

MW DO get paid to attend C-Section births.. just not as much as if its a vaginal delivery and they still get paid for ante and post natal care, not all mw will take on electives though...
Whether you get pushed ot VBAC or Elective will depend on your previous history and the OB you see tbh.... I specifically had my mw refer me to pro-VBAC OB at NSH as it was really important to me however there is another OB at NSH who is very anti VBAC even with the push to reduce the section rate so you just dont know really.
If you want an elective then be open and upfront when you look for a mw and find someone who will support you in that decision.

You definitely do not have to pay for an elective 2nd time round if you've already had an emergency c-sect. I think even if you've had to have an elective first time round you don't have to pay for any specialist care 2nd time whether you choose ob or midwife care. I had emergency first, then when I got preg again my gp wrote a referral to the private ob who'd done my surgery & I've had him as my lmc since, no cost at all except when I go for a non-preg gyn thing, e.g smear.
