Topic: moldy bath toys Posted: 08 August 2005 at 12:52pm |
Hey, it's really humid here and have just discovered Jake's duck has mold through it, on the inside. Now, is this cleanable? Or should it just be biffed. Keep in mind, it was cheap, I bought it - so not a gift, and he likes it, but it isn't THE bath toy.

I've tried cleaning ours, but usually to no avail. I generally buy replacements and then throw the old ones out and the kids are non the wiser.

our bath toys do the same. so now we buy ones from the $2 shops, cos they are always in stock and we can just replace them without paris catching on that they are any different.

I just realised you guys could probably answer this...
We got sent some plastic toys from Peter's cousin that her babies had. I want to sterilise/clean them for the baby - do I just boil them in hot water for a while??

i hsve baby sterilising solution for the bottles and my mate suggested making up some solution and slipping the bath toys in them after the bath. I'm trying that now and seems to be okay......will throw out old rubber ducky!!!
hey speaking of bath toys again, I bought some from ETC from UK. Anyway, got them home to realise that they had given me two seahorses and no dolphin. So contacted them by email, and they sent me an entire new box and some vouchers!!! nice huh!

woohoo, what a score. yep sterilizing solution is a good idea, give them a wipe over with a cloth soaked in it.. don't immerse them cos then they can get water trapped inside and that will go yuck.

lol yep. Paris had a heap of really neat squirting toys she was given, but one by one, no matter what i did they all got gross inside so had to be biffed. her aunty gave her some neat foam type shapes of animals and letters that stick to the wall through and they are really cool and easy to keep clean. she loves them as well. we use them to write messages like "mummy and paris love daddy" and funny stuff.

jake likes the bath toys we got him, but he LOVES playing with the taps, bath plug, razors, shampoo, soap and anything else that accidentaaly gets left there. My mum asked me what Jake's favourite toy was and I think I can safely say, anything he knows he's not allowed to play with. And he's got an amzing reach now!!! Jake can now climb on the couch and coffee table.

LOL reminds of the old saying "give a child an expensive present and they'll want the box." Welcome to the club of never being able to have anything where you want it.

Maya's fave bath toy was an empty roll on deoderant bottle, she loved rolling it all over her.
Janola diluted 1 part to 10 parts water is also a good way to sterilise bath toys, or other plastic, non-porous toys. Immerse them in the solution, wipe off, and then hang to dry in a netting bag . Cleaning them with Janola solution made this way is also 100% safe if the kiddies stick the toys in their mouths after they've been cleaned.

Ok what about soft toys? I have loads of soft teddies/doggies that I have collected over the years..and they are in a really good condition and were washed twice a year...how can I clean them before giving to bub? Or should I keep them out of reach?
